Four days. 36 participants. 9 states. One shared objective — improving quality in rural road infrastructure.
The Department of Civil Engineering, BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus successfully conducted a four-day Training Programme on Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QA/QC) for Rural Roads from 21–24 September 2026, sponsored by NRIDA, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.
The programme brought together 36 practising engineers from 9 states, providing a platform for technical learning, practical demonstrations and exchange of field experiences.
🔹 19 lecture sessions + 2 laboratory sessions
🔹 QA/QC specifications, testing and construction practices
🔹 Field-level quality control and stage inspections
🔹 Practical laboratory demonstrations and testing
🔹 Experiences and challenges from rural road projects across different states
🔹 11 faculty members contributing as resource persons
The programme was inaugurated by Prof. S. K. Barai, Director, BITS Pilani–Pilani Campus. Col. S. Chakrabarty, Registrar, BITS Pilani, and Prof. A. P. Singh, Coordinator, addressed the gathering, highlighting the objectives of the programme and the important role of engineers in ensuring quality in rural road construction.
The programme was coordinated by Prof. A. P. Singh, with Prof. Nishant Bhargava, Prof. Vijay Kakade and Prof. Vinayak Malaghan as Associate Coordinators. We were also pleased to have Prof. A. K. Sarkar join the programme and deliver a guest lecture.
The four days reflected the importance of connecting classroom knowledge with field practice — from QA/QC specifications and stage inspections to laboratory testing and construction practices.
The valedictory ceremony was graced by Prof. A. K. Sarkar, Former Director, BITS Pilani–Pilani Campus, as Chief Guest, and Prof. N. V. M. Rao as Guest of Honour. Prof. Dipendu Bhunia, Head of the Department, addressed the participants, bringing the programme to a meaningful conclusion.
