Looking into the rapid change in the global industry environment, Department of Chemical Engineering at BITS Pilani, Hyderabad campus is determined to nurture new talents and create leaders and entrepreneurs who can bring high-level value addition to the Chemical and Allied industries. Our mission is to drive excellence in Chemical Engineering education and training thereby leading to the creation of a common platform for connecting academia and industry in the exchange of knowledge.
Chemical Engineering department comprises highly experienced and qualified faculty who have received PhDs/Postdocs from IIT’s or universities abroad. The Department offers robust programs in three tiers of Chemical Engineering i.e Bachelors (B.E Honors), Masters (M.E) and Ph.D. We also train our students in doing research in thrust areas as part of the curriculum. We have well-equipped state of the art laboratories for students to gain extensive practical knowledge. Our B.E students have been placed in reputed companies such as Shell, Honeywell, etc. Our department has received funding for different projects from DST, BIRAC (DBT), CSIR, ABSTC Mumbai, DRDO and BITS Pilani. Because of our close association with Industry, we invite experts to deliver talks to our students. We organise industrial trips every semester apart from 7.5 months of practice school training. Our faculty are also involved in teaching courses for Industry Professionals under the Work Integrated Learning Program (WILP).
To excel in teaching/learning, innovative research and industry engagement and to disseminate the same in order to become a world leader in chemical engineering and allied interdisciplinary areas.
Our Mission includes imparting quality education and training in chemical engineering and associated fields to enable the students to imbibe technical and analytical skills through the culture of logical and critical thinking. We aim at inculcating a sense of social and environmental responsibility among students. BITS Pilani vouches to establish modern infrastructure and conducive research environment for carrying out academic and sponsored research. Additionally, we want to foster a spirit of excellence and professional leadership in students and faculty members through exposure to leading academic institutions, research organisations and external experts and give them suitable opportunities for sustained interaction as well as collaboration with academia and industry.
The Department of Chemical Engineering is working on diverse research areas such as: Process Development, Reaction Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Electrochemical Engineering, Polymers and Composites, Catalysis, Mathematical Modelling and Simulation, Biomaterials, Pulp and Paper Technology, Fuel Cells, Environmental Pollution Control, Material Science and Nanotechnology. The research outcomes are regularly published in high impact journals and conferences.
