Featuring BITS Alumni Speaker โ Mr. Partha Khaskil
We were delighted to host Mr. Partha Khaskil, BITS Pilani alumnus (M.E. Transportation Engineering, 2022), and currently a Highway Engineer at Mott MacDonald โ Global Delivery Services. With hands-on experience in major UK highway and defence airbase projects, Partha brings expertise in corridor modelling, LIDAR-based isopach analysis, and multidisciplinary design coordination.
๐ฃ๏ธ Workshop Highlights
๐น Geometric Design of a T-Junction using Autodesk Civil 3D
๐น Development of 2D alignment with real-time vehicle movement analysis
๐น Hands-on use of Vehicle Tracking to simulate trucks, buses & turning envelopes
๐น Design decisions based on speed, superelevation & turning radius following IRC standards
๐น Transition to 3D modelling focusing on:
Level management
Curb returns
Intersection elevation control
Surface drainage
๐น Sight distance & visibility evaluation using Civil 3D visualisation tools to analyse driver eye height, object height, and line-of-sight constraints
โ
Key Takeaway
The session brilliantly bridged real-world highway design concepts with practical software implementation, giving participants a clear understanding of how geometric design, safety, and drainage considerations come together in intersection modelling.
๐ Gratitude
A big thank you to Mr. Partha Khaskil for sharing industry insights and inspiring young engineers. The workshop proved to be an enriching experience for all participants.
Special Thanks To Dr. Nishant Bhargava for this initiative and Dr. Dipendu Bhunia (Ph.D, Aff.M ASCE, L.M.ICI) ,HOD ,Department of Civil Engineering,BITS Pilani, Pilani campus for taking the lead role.
