Ms. Divya Rathore, a fourth-year undergraduate student of Mechanical Engineering at BITS Pilani, Pilani campus was selected as a Student Representative to the first Regional Conference of WePOWER - Women in Power Sector conference The conference has been organized by the World Bank Group along with Asian Development Bank, Australian Aid and Energy Sector Management Assistance Program in Kathmandu, Nepal held on February 20 and 21, 2019. Over 250 women energy sector professionals and engineering students represented their countries at the WePOWER conference These included representatives from 60 participating institutions from local and international power utilities and multi-lateral agencies.
The goal is to support greater participation of women in energy projects and utilities and promote normative change regarding women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education. The network aims at raising interest in girls for STEM subjects, increasing female enrollment in engineering programs, access to power sector/energy coursework and practical internship opportunities to ensure a pipeline of qualified female candidates to help close the employment gap for women in the South Asian power sector.
