BITS Pilani celebrated 20th Anniversary by welcoming over 1500 school and college students to the campus – visitors witnessed latest research, prototypes, installations

As part of the culmination of celebrations to mark 20 years of the K K Birla Goa Campus, BITS Pilani organized the 3rd Open Day on Saturday, 23rd Nov 2024.  The Open Day was attended by over 1500 students from various schools, higher secondary schools and colleges from across Goa.  Students and teachers were welcomed by Prof. Suman Kundu, Director and Prof. Meenal Kowshik, Dean Administration along with other senior faculty and staff members.

 

Students of schools from Zambaulim, Karapur, Shiroda, Margao, Ponda, Dabem (Valpoi), Bicholim, Canacona, Vasco and colleges from Pernem, Margao, Dharbandora, Cortalim, Vasco, Panaji visited the campus.

 

All the departments in the campus, which includes Computer Science, Mechanical, Chemical, EEE, Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Economics & Finance and Humanities & Social Sciences showcased and presented their latest research and other achievements through posters, models, demonstrations, installations, prototypes and much more.  Altogether around 900 faculty members, staff, PhD scholars and ME, MSc and BE students were involved in organizing the event successfully.  Various student clubs of the Institute which includes SEDS Celestia (astronomy club), Project Einsat (satellite club), Society of Automotive Engineers, Aerodynamics Club, Electronics and Robotics Club, Project Kratos (Mars rovers) and many others, also showcased their innovations, projects and creations.

 

The exhibitions included knowing the biological systems - from molecules to cells to the organismal level; intro to the world of chemistry of colours, fluorescence, printing, reaction kinetics; exciting quizzes and games to find out how the legendary mathematicians shaped the world of mathematics; discovering thrilling demonstrations of fundamental physics concepts through interactive experiments; going through the prototype of chemical industry; learning how robotic arm, car driving simulator, spiderbot, 4-legged robot, 8 bit computer, rover and snake bot works; witnessing a robot demo, design analysis software demo, violin show; going around the climate change lab, sea traffic lab and the media lab. 

 

This was an exceptional opportunity for visitors to witness the educational ecosystem of BITS Pilani and to get a feel of the research, teaching and innovation that is being groomed in the campus.
