Recent achievements of Civil Undergraduate students.
It is often considered that Civil Engineering is related to field work only, anyways, it is not so. One of prospects in Civil engineering is designing buildings using software. The competitions related to this aspect bring laurels to BITS Pilani every year. One of them, by Mr. Anvit Kr. Mittal is worth mentioning. The competition organized by Autodesk, “3-D Student Design Challenge” was divided into two categories i) BIM category ,i.e. 2-D modelling ii) CAD category ,i.e. 3-D modelling. The theme for both the categories was to design a futuristic building. Anvit along with Viraj Voditel and Akshay Singh Bisht participated in CAD category in which they designed fish shaped auditorium. They were second at national level and bagged a cash price of 30,000. For B.I.M category, they designed a prison campus of 60 acres consisting of sports complex, pool, prison cell, library, etc. The finals for this category were held in Mumbai, in which Anvit and Viraj participated with Mr. Amit Goel, a faculty member. Here also they emerged as shining stars, standing first in the competition. They got a cash price of Rs.1,20,000 and a sponsored trip to Las Vegas, where they attended a conference in Autodesk University and were certified as Autodesk professionals.
The Ex-Secretary of CEA, Mr. Siddharth Awasthi got a chance to work as an intern in Institute of Concrete and Masonry in Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany. He received DAAD Scholarship for the internship in Germany. He worked on the project “Membrane compressive stresses in masonry construction”.
Recent achievements of Civil Higher Degree students.
Mr. Akshay Rao Hoshing and Mr. Harmanpreet Singh Bhettal of M.E in Structural Engineering participated in BOSM’14 held during 19-23 September in the event Power-lifting. Mr. Akshay Rao Hoshing won the 2nd place in 67 to 72kgs category. Power-lifting being a combination of bench press, squats and dead lifts, Mr. Akshay managed to lift a total of 365kgs (bench press: 95kgs, dead lift: 150kgs, squats: 120kgs).
