Overview-Mission and Vision

About the Department

The Pharmacy department of BITS Pilani is one of the few early schools of Pharmacy in India. Established in 1950, under the able leadership of (Late) Prof. M. L. Schroff, Father of Pharmacy Education in India, it blossomed into one of the most sought after Schools of Pharmacy in India due to its broad-based education system and university-industry linkages, which is the hallmark of BITS, Pilani.

In the year of 2011, the Department of Pharmacy has completed 60 years of its existence as a premier institution in the field of Pharmacy Education and Research in India and abroad. The Department is continuously undertaking research projects funded by industries and governmental funding agencies like CSIR, UGC, AICTE, DST and MHRD. Ph.D. degrees have been awarded to about 60 candidates till now. Alumni are well placed in India as well as abroad in various pharmaceutical companies, government organizations like drug control, research laboratories, etc., and in several well-known academic institutions.

Research

The Department is continuously undertaking research projects funded by industries and governmental funding agencies like CSIR, UGC, AICTE, DST and MHRD. Ph.D. degrees have been awarded to about 60 candidates till now.

Prof. R. N. Saha (Director, BITS Pilani-Dubai campus) received chair professorship award in the recognition of their significant contributions to teaching/research work.  Recently, Prof R. Mahesh (Professor of Pharmacy and Dean faculty Affairs Division) received best paper award (Pharmacology discipline) in APTI held in Oct. 2011 at Moga, Punjab. Recently, the department of Pharmacy has been sanctioned five UGC funded BSR fellowships for PhD students. Currently there are 17 faculty members and 46 full-time PhD students in the Dept. of Pharmacy.

  • 7.5/75% cGPA or above in M. Pharmacy, M. Pharm./ MS Pharm (Pharmacology and Toxicology, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry ) or equivalent for candidates having such degree
  • B. Pharm/M.Sc./ME/Pharm D/ MTech as highest degree not considered

  • Mr. Kishan S Italiya (Ph.D. Research Scholar) working with Dr Anupama Mittal has received the following awards recently:
  • "AAPS 2019 Best Abstract Award" at AAPS PhramSci360 2019 International conference held at texas, USA on 03-06 November 2019.
  • Best Poster Presentation Award (Innovative Idea & Patents category) in 2nd National Biomedical Research Competition (NBRCom-2019)held at Chandigarh, INDIA on 17th November 2019.
  • Ms. Arisha Mahmood (M.Pharm., III SEM) wins the best individual speaker prize at the annual intercollege debate competition organized by Sentiss Pharma at Niper Mohali on 7th Nov'19 on the topic "Trade wars and new drug regulations in the US and Europe: Opportunity or Pitfall for Indian pharma companies"
  • Mr. Kishan S Italitya (Ph.D. Research Scholar) working with Dr Anupama Mittal has received "International Travel support" from DST for attending AAPS 2019 PharmSci360 to be held at Texas, USA.
  • Mr. K.V.Krishna (Ph.D. Research Scholar) working with Dr Dubey and Prof Saha  has received "CSIR Foreign Travel Grant" for attending 6th Asia-Pacific Congress of Interventional Oncology,  held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 02-05 October 2019.
  • Mr. K.V.Krishna (Ph.D. Research Scholar) working with Dr Dubey and Prof Saha has been awarded  "Young Investigator Award" at the 6th Asia-Pacific Congress of Interventional Oncology, 2019 held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 02-05 October 2019.
