Overview

The Pharmacy Group of BITS Pilani is one of the few early schools of Pharmacy in India. Established in 1950, under the able leadership of (Late) Prof. M. L. Schroff, Father of Pharmacy Education in India, it blossomed into one of the most sought after Schools of Pharmacy in India due to its broad-based education system and university-industry linkages, which is the hallmark of BITS, Pilani.

In the year of 2011, the Department of Pharmacy has completed 60 years of its existence as a premier institution in the field of Pharmacy Education and Research in India and abroad.  The department celebrated its 60th Anniversary of its glorious existence on 19th-20th November 2011. Alumni are well placed in India as well as abroad in various pharmaceutical companies, government organizations like drug control, research laboratories, etc., and in several well-known academic institutions.

Research

The Group is continuously undertaking research projects funded by industries and governmental funding agencies like CSIR, UGC, AICTE, DST and MHRD. Ph.D. degrees have been awarded to about 60 candidates till now.

Prof. R. N. Saha (Senior Professor of Pharmacy and Deputy Director, Pilani campus) received chair professorship award in the recognition of their significant contributions to teaching/research work.  Recently, Prof R. Mahesh (Professor of Pharmacy and Dean faculty affairs division) received best paper award (Pharmacology discipline) in APTI held in Oct. 2011 at Moga, Punjab. Recently, the department of Pharmacy has been sanctioned five UGC funded BSR fellowships for PhD students. Currently total 23 candidates (8 faculty members and 15 full time students) are pursuing PhD in the deptt. of Pharmacy.
