Research at Department of Chemical Engineering
The Department is initiating research activities through external funding both from industry and from funding agencies in new and emerging areas like unmixed combustion, CFD modeling for novel reactor designs, micro chemical engineering and process intensification studies.
The Department also encourages faculty and student level participation in inter disciplinary projects and inter-institutional projects. Students are encouraged to take up such projects with external guides if they so desire.
Strong Industry-academia linkages are being built with a few industries in Goa and Mumbai regions which are tapped for a continuous stream of short term projects involving real industrial problems. These are experimental as well as new design and modification problems in which the student is expected to present his work as a technical thesis report which will be evaluated and taken up for implementation by the sponsoring industry.
Presently the range of projects in the Department of Chemical Engineering have been funded by agencies like DRDO, Department of Fertilizers under the Ministry of Fertilizers and chemicals, Ministry of MNES, IRPA (Govt. of Malaysia), INTEL, Toray (Japan), etc. Efforts are also underway to forge institutional collaboration with good industrial research centres from both public and private sector in India.
In the last 6 years, the department has got funding to the tune of about Rs. 12 million and is poised to file a few patents. The faculty members have significant publications in national and international journals and have participated in several national and international seminars.
