Ongoing Research

There are several ongoing projects in our lab. Please contact me for more information.

  1. Antimicrobial Dressings for Wound Healing Applications: We have developed facile strategies for the fabrication of antimicrobial dressings that can aid in prevention and mitigation of wound infections. Recently, copper-modified cotton gauze has shown excellent promise in the healing of infected wounds in rats.
  2. Design and Application of Therapeutic peptidesWith a steady rise in antimicrobial resistance, the world is now speeding up the discovery of novel antimicrobial therapeutics. In collaboration with Prof. Arnab Dutta,we are trying to discover novel antimicrobial peptides using an integrated computational-experimental approach. We are also working on strategies to stabilize and immobilize peptides on surfaces for self-assembled layers/ functional coatings.
  3. Nanopatterned Surfaces for Antimicrobial ApplicationIn this project, we are exploring surfaces patterned with micron-scale and nano-scale structures for the development of fouling-resistant and mechano-bactericidal surfaces. This work is in collaboration with Prof. Nandini Bhandaru.
  4. Development of Bacteria Detection SensorsIn collaboration with Prof. Ramendra Pal, we are developing point-of-care electrochemical diagnostic tools for the detection of infection in wounds.
