Research focus is there in all tires of education, First Degree, Higher Degree and Ph.D. The University has its own seed grant scheme to encourage research in new areas. The Department encourages research in Mechanical as well as inter-disciplinary areas. The general work areas of the faculty in the Department can be broadly summarized as:

  • Design Engineering
  • Thermal Engineering & Fluid transport
  • Manufacturing Engineering
  • Materials, including Nano-Materials and MEMS
  • Industrial Engineering & Operations Research
  • Robotics & Mechatronics

Funded Research

7 research projects are completed in last 6 yrs. Details of currently undergoing funded research projects are given below:
  • SAP from (UGC): Innovative Product Design and Development , Rs. 38 Lacs, 2007-2012
  • UGC major: An Empirical Investigation of Manufacturing Excellence in Indian Industry Rs. 2.72 Lacs, 2008-2010
  • National Program on MEMS and Smart Systems: Development of indigenous Lab-on-chip device for UTI Pathogen detection: ~68 Lakhs, 2009-2011
  • As above: Establishment of new NPMASS National MEMS Design Center: ~87 Lacs, 2010-2012
  • INUP, IISc, Bangalore: EWOD metered fluid flow in micro/nano channels,Sanctions for Equipment usage, Accomodation, TA/DA, Consumables and other actuals
  • Department of Mechanical Engineering has received a support of Rs. 165 lacs under DST-FIST program, 2012-2017
  • Design, Development and Engineering of a 28 DOF Humanoid Robot (AcYut) capable of stable walking, object detection and obstacle avoidance: Rs. 45 Lacs, 2012-2014
