I fulfil twin responsibilities in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at BPHC. I teach an elective course on reporting and writing for the media where the class gets an opportunity to read a variety of news and analysis stories, practice different forms and styles of newswriting and think together about the complexities of understanding and reporting on issues from a public interest point of view. My larger purpose is to motivate the participants to hone their skills of social communication, research and writing so that they become confident to publish their work for a wider readership. I also teach Technical Report Writing, where participants entering their academic programmes at BPHC are familiarised with the essentials of academic reading and writing.

Secondly, I engage with the research scholars and the faculty in the department, making myself useful in reviewing, questioning and refining their methods, key arguments and social, political and moral commitments. Given my background in animal studies, I try to offer perspectives from my field of study that the scholars can engage with in their own.
