I am currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Humanities and Social Science Department
at BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus. My main interest areas are gender, labour, histories of
infrastructure and social stratification. Drawing from my PhD dissertation (Jawaharlal Nehru
University, New Delhi, India), I am writing a monograph on the history of women construction
workers in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century India. I have published my research in
journal articles: “Doing ‘Coolie’ Work in a ‘Gentlemanly’ Way: Gender and Caste on Famine Public
Works in Colonial North India” and “‘Men Diggers and Women Carriers’: Gendered Work on
Famine Public Works in Colonial North India”. My future projects include history of the Bharatiya
Mazdoor Sangh and an oral history project on P. Sundarayya.
