Phoenix, the association of EEE, ECE and EIE students regularly conducts technical events in the campus. The IEEE chapter on campus comprises many student members and actively conducts technical seminars and other events.

  • Talk by two senior scientists from ISAC (ISRO): 17 March 2018

  • Two-Days Workshop on “Multiscale Simulation of Advanced Materials” from 18th – 19th December, 2017

    • 2-Days Workshop On Multiscale Simulation of Advanced Materials (MSAM 2017) was organized by EEE dept on 18th and 19th  December 2017.  
    • The participants included undergraduate students, research scholars, and faculty from different institutes and research organizations. Facilitators of the workshop included scientists from NIST, Boulder, CO, USA (electronically) and CSIR –NAL, Bangalore, India. 
    • The workshop included invited lectures, discussions, and tutorials.  At the end of the workshop, there was one competition for participants based on all the tutorial sessions. 
    • The competition was sponsored by Springer who has provided 3 springer e-coupons ($500 for 1st , $300 for 2nd and $200 for 3rd)  for the winners of the competition.

  • Talk by Prof. Aurobinda Routray, IIT Kharagpur (10 Nov 2017)

    Prof. Aurobinda Routray (Electrical Engineering, IIT Kharagpur) presented an invited on “Portable Embedded System for Human Monitoring”. Prof. Routray is an eminent Professor with more than 120 publications, 7 patents. His research interests include non-linear and statistical signal processing, signal based fault detection and diagnosis, real time and embedded signal processing, numerical linear algebra, and data driven diagnostics.

  • Home Automation Workshop (15 Sept 2017)

    Home Automation workshop (pictures) was conducted by the PHoEnix association on 14th and 15th of September as a part of “Engineer’s Day”. The workshop was taken by the R Ganesh Varma and PV Nikhilanj, accompanied by the tech-team members, C Satcheel reddy, C Vineel and B Akhil Raj. There was a participation of about 120 students from all batches and streams, grouped into 60 teams. A kit was distributed to every team that consisted of : 

    1. NodeMCU
    2. Relay
    3. Ultrasonic Sensor
    4. LED
    5. Resistance Box
    6. Breadboard
    7. Male and female jumper wires

    The workshop was intended to give a detailed introduction to microcontrollers, networking, NodeMCU and data transfer between a phone and the board. Further, switching on a relay using one’s phone, interfacing with a ultrasonic sensor, connecting the NodeMCU with the internet using Facebook messenger and MQTT protocol to send data to the board was planned to be dealt in the workshop. With this knowledge, we expect the students to play around with the kit to make their own home automation systems incorporating different sensors. One such example of a system that was given by the tech-team is an ‘Anti-Theft System’ incorporating the ultrasonic sensor. This gives a huge push to the students who are getting started in circuit design and IOT.

    Due to a huge turnout, longer than expected Q/A and debugging sessions, couple of topics from the aforementioned list weren’t covered in the given time frame. An additional session can be expected in the next couple of days that will wrap the workshop and give some more time for additional queries. 

  • Prof. R. Karmalkar's (EE, IITM) Visit (15 Sept 2017)

    Prof. R. Karmalkar (Electrical Engineering Department, IIT Madras) visited on 15 Sept 2017. He closely interacted with the students (UG, PG & PhD) and discussed the issues and challenged in Semiconductor devices field. More pictures can be seen from here.

  • PHoEnix Talks by Mr. M. K. Kaushik on 25th March 2013

    The third session of PHoEnix Talks was given by Mr. Kaushik, one of the Ph.D. scholars on campus working on communications. The talk was focused on the basics of communications which included LTE, Cognitive Radio, Ad Hoc Radio, etc. All the students got direction to work in the field of communications. This talk was one of those which was held to bridge the gap between first degree and higher degree students.

  • PHoEnix Talks by Mr.Chetan Kumar.V on 13th February 2013

    The second session of PHoEnix Talks was given by Mr. Chetan Kumar V. The event had an amazing response from the students. Mr. Chetan guided us through a variety of important issues which include placements, higher studies and a thorough approach to optimum utilization of four years studying electronics.

  • TechniQ on 23rd November 2012

    A general quiz on electrical, electronics and communications was conducted to test the awareness of the students.  

  • ATMOS (The Technical Festival of BPHC) on 25th – 27th October 2012

    PHoEnix had a sizeable share in the events of ATMOS, the technical festival of BPHC, having no lesser than four events; making it one of the most prolific associations on campus.
     
    Rage of the Titans
     
    Being one the headliner events of the fest, Robo Wars was the most attractive and entertaining  events of the fest with sheets of metal flying around and robots fighting to survive in the arena. The event had more than 10 robots participating to grab the prestigious event.
     
    A’MAZE’D
     
    This was the next level of line follower. The students are required to build fully autonomous bots that can solve a line maze. More than 6 teams participated in this event.
     
    The Circuit Art
     
    This competition was based on the skill of solving electrical circuits. The first round was a quiz where all the participants were tested on their basic skillset of solving simple electrical circuits. The second round was held in the DECO Lab where students had to solve a real life problem by developing a digital logic for it. More than 100 students participated in the event.
     
    Open Micro Challenge
     
    The students were tested on their programming skills. The competition was based on the microcontroller programming. The event was held in the IPC lab with more than 70 students participating in the event.
     
    Paper Presentations
     
    Paper Presentations were invited from all students in the fields of electrical, electronics and communications. More than 500 students applied for the preliminary round, out of which only 300 were selected. The further rounds were reviewed by the faculty. 
     
    Workshop on Sixth Sense Technology
     
    A workshop on the revolutionary Sixth Sense Technology was conducted by the association with the help of the Students Union. This two day workshop kick started with good response and lots of excitement among the participants, the first day of the workshop took the participants through the basics of using ARDUINO and coding in MATLAB, the dynamics of robots and a lot more.

  • Workshop by Technophilia on 13th,14th & 15th October 2012

    A workshop on AVR Autobotz was conducted by Technophilia Systems. Students were taught how to make a line follower and a maze solver using microcontrollers. The workshop received an overwhelming response with more than 50 teams participating in the workshop. A small competition was conducted by technophilia after the workshop. Top 3 teams were sent to the Robotics competition held in IIT Bombay.

  • PHoEnix Talks by Prof. Y. Yoganandam on 12th October 2012)

    The first session of PHoEnix Talks kickstarted with a talk by Prof. Y. Yoganandam. He spoke about academics and future opportunities. This was followed by an interaction with the seniors (4th Yearites). They gave useful tips about placements and projects. Also, queries regarding GATE, GRE, CAT, etc. were answered giving all the students a brief overview and showing proper direction to their careers.

  • Workshop in association with IEEE on 9th, 10th, 11th October 2012

    This workshop was conducted on Embedded Systems. Around 200 students participated in the workshop making this event a great success. The concepts taught during the workshop include basics of the 8051 microcontroller, interfacing it with LED’s, etc. The workshop was mainly conducted to give the students an insight into the world of microcontroller programming by using the 8051 model.

  • Technophilia Talk on 8th October 2012

    One of the mentors from Technophilia gave a talk exploring the world of robotics.He gave a brief insight into the workshop that was to be conducted in the week on AVR Autobotz.
