About the Faculty

Dr. Rajiv Kumar Chaturvedi is currently an Associate Professor at BITS, Pilani's Goa campus. He is also an Associate Head and In-Charge of the School of Interdisciplinary Research and Entrepreneurship (SIRE) at BITS Pilani's Goa campus. Dr. Rajiv Kumar Chaturvedi obtained his PhD from Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Ecology from the Centre for Ecological Sciences, and a masters in Geography from Delhi School of Economics, Delhi University. After PhD, Dr. Chaturvedi worked for HSBC Global Research at its Centre for Climate Change Excellence as a research Analyst till 2012. In 2012 he joined IISc, Bangalore as a National Environmental Sciences Fellow. Dr. Chaturvedi has also been associated with the Centre for Environmental Policy and Technology in the Imperial College, London as a visiting researcher. He has contributed to more than 45 peer reviewed articles, and to three books in the areas related to Sustainability, forestry, environment and climate change. Dr. Chaturvedi has worked extensively with communities, Government officials, NGOs, and UN organizations. Dr. Chaturvedi is currently the co-chair of IUCN’s forest ecosystems’ group. Dr. Chaturvedi is currently involved with India’s National Greenhouse Gas Inventory programme and contributed to India's recent - Third National Communication (TNC) to the United Nations. He is a lead author for the Regional Assessment Reports of the UNEP (United Nations' Environment Programme) and IPBES (Intergovernmental Panel on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services). In Goa, Dr. Chaturvedi contributed to its State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC), and is currently an expert member on the governing council of state's SAPCC implementation committee.
