Aileen Caitriona Blaney

Associate Professor

Aileen Blaney has an undergraduate degree in English and French Literature, an MPhil in Theatre Studies and was awarded her PhD in Film Studies by Trinity College Dublin. In the decade prior to joining BITS Pilani, she taught and held administrative positions in Flame University, Pune and Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore.

Her scholarship has explored Irish cinema in a post-conflict framework, photography in India and internet visual culture. Dr. Blaney’s writing has appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as Photography and Culture, Philosophy of Photography, History & Memory, European Journal of Cultural Studies, European Journal of Women’s Studies, Leonardo and South Asia: Journal of South Asia Studies, on popular news sites such as The WireThe Daily Mail and Huffington Post and in literary journals such as The Mekong Review.  She is the co-editor of Photography in India: from Archives to Contemporary Practice (Bloomsbury/2019; Routledge/2020).
