Department of Physics

Overview

Welcome to the Department of Physics at BITS Pilani. We have faculty with interests ranging from experimental to theoretical aspects of condensed matter physics, optics, spectroscopy, image processing, field theory and quantum computation. Our activities include, apart from teaching physics courses and guiding students in their projects and theses, internal in which we talk about topics of interest including recent research activities. We also organize of visitors from other reputed institutes. The students of the Physics Club organize a Physics Week as part of APOGEE and those of the Astronomy club conduct periodic observation sessions.

Research

Faculty and student members pursue research in wide range of topics in theoretical and experimental physic. In theory the departments research interests are in the field of High energy Physics, Nuclear Physics, Bio-Physics,
Statastical Physics, atomic and molecular physics...

Courses

The two Academic programs of the Department are:

M.Sc (Hons.) Physics:
It is an integrated first degree program without an intermediate B.Sc degree. This program enables the students to choose either an industrial or an academic career after the completion of the program.
Ph.D Program:
The institute's Ph.D program is primarily designed for a student who has already completed one of the higher degrees of the institute (viz. M.E./M.Phil./M.S./ M.Pharm.). An alternate scheme is available for first degree holders, including students who have completed their Masters from other reputed institutions.
