Prof. B.M. Reddy received his Ph.D. in 1986 from the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad. He began his scientific career as a junior scientist in 1984 at CSIR-IICT and superannuated as Chief Scientist and Head of the Inorganic & Physical Chemistry Department in February 2017. He continued his active research until the end of December 2020 at the same institute, where he was a Raja Ramanna Distinguished Fellow, as offered by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Mumbai. In 2021, he was a guest researcher at West Virginia University in Morgantown, USA. Since January 2022, he has been associated with BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, as Senior Professor Emeritus.

During his long career at CSIR-IICT, he received various prestigious fellowships, including those from JSPS (Japan), DAAD (Germany), CNRS (France), NSF (USA), and Brain Pool (South Korea), among others, which enabled him to visit and work in different countries.

Prof. Reddy has authored or co-authored 350+ SCI original research papers in refereed international journals, 13 book chapters, 16 reviews, 5 monographs, and 2 edited books, and holds 8 patents. The h-index of his publications now stands at 84, with a total of more than 21,175 citations. His name is listed in Stanford University, USA's Top 2% of World Researchers, published annually from 2019 to 2025. He has guided 40 Ph.D. theses and more than 30 B.Tech. / M.Tech./M.Sc. dissertations. He has been serving as a member of the editorial board or guest editor of the Journal of CO2 Utilization, Applied Petrochemical Research, Emission Control Science and Technology, Catalysis Today, Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, Frontiers in Chemistry, and other journals. In his honor, Elsevier Science Publishers’ flagship journal “Molecular Catalysis” published a special issue titled 'Metal Oxides in Catalysis - Professor Benjaram M Reddy Festschrift' (Volume 451 in May 2018).

Prof. Reddy has received various awards and honors that include CSIR Young Scientist Award, CSI Young Scientist Award, Associate Fellowship of Third World Academy of Sciences, Associate Fellowship of Andhra Pradesh Academy of Sciences, Sir C V Raman Fellowship of CSIR, Gold Medal of Society for Materials Chemistry (SMC), Gold Medal of Association of Biotechnology and Pharmacy (ABAP), Bronze Medal of Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI), Professor S K Bhattacharya Eminent Scientist Award of Catalysis Society of India (CSI), AlCTE - Distinguished Professional, and many more. He is an elected fellow of the Indian National Science Academy (FNA), the Indian National Academy of Engineering (FNAE), the National Academy of Sciences India (FNASc), the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), the Andhra Pradesh Academy of Sciences (FAPAS), and the Telangana Academy of Sciences (FTAS). He has served or is serving as the Council Member of the International Association of Catalysis Societies (IACS) and Asia-Pacific Association of Catalysis Societies (APACS), Honorary Secretary of the Catalysis Society of India, and Honorary Treasurer of the Telangana Academy of Sciences.

His research expertise includes heterogeneous catalysis, nanomaterials, green chemistry, and green processes.
