MBA in Business Analytics

Overview

Management education at BITS Pilani is anchored in the fundamentals of general management with the latest theories and best practices in the business world. With an eye on emerging technologies, and changing business environments, BITS Pilani has introduced a programme on MBA in Business Analytics from the Academic Year 2021-22. In this program, along with core courses in MBA, students will be equipped with key skills in Business Analytics such as multivariate statistics, time series analysis, deep learning algorithms, natural language processing, big data and technologies stack for building AI solutions for business processes improvement, decision-making, innovation, and strategic advantage.

Pedagogy

Management education in BITS Pilani is imparted through a thoughtfully balanced mix of teaching pedagogy. Faculty members strive to make the classes interactive so that students can correlate the theories with practical examples for better understanding.

Case Supplement

Lectures supplemented by case studies are carried out in all the courses which enhance students' analytical, problem solving and decision making skills. This facilitates experiential learning among the students as they face real business issues, apply their classroom knowledge and strengthen their business acumen.

Team Activities

Students usually get a chance to work in teams wherein they learn to work and adapt with diverse workforce while working on specified assignments. Moreover, various managerial and negotiation skills get fostered in the students. Also during the semester, students undertake project(s) in each course. Herein, the students are expected to research and analyse latest industry developments, incorporate theoretical concepts, understand and propose innovative solutions to the business challenges

Experiential learning

Through various projects taken as a part of different courses and internships, students go through experiential learning process. All students have the opportunity to enrol for 6 months of structured Practice school, as a part of the curriculum. These activities strengthen their learning outcomes at BITS Pilani.

Continuous Evaluation

Students are regularly evaluated on different parameters to check their progress throughout a semester. Class participation, short quizzes, announced tests, assignments, projects, etc. form part of this evaluation process.

Guest Lecture

Workshop

Workshops on different domains are conducted on a regular basis to equip the students with necessary skills as per the demand of the industry. In 2018 workshops were conducted to improve students’ skills related to project management, effective communication, financial modelling, portfolio management, six sigma, business analytics and Microsoft Excel. Practice School

The Practice School (PS) is a distinguishing feature of the MBA in Business Analytics program at BITS Pilani. After completing the course work in the first three semesters, the students are required to undertake the PS program in the last semester which forms a part of the overall structured curriculum. Herein, all the students get an opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge and skills to real practical problems.

The Salient Features of Practice School Program:

  • 6 months of well thought-out and guided internship. Students work on real-time projects in domains of their interest
  • Enhancement of business acumen through inculcation of team working, decision making, interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Insight into Industrial culture that grooms students for Corporate life
  • Marks the foundation level, wherein the students project themselves as enviable assets as managers
  • Handsome stipends along with other perks, which include travel, accommodation etc. Many graduates are offered Pre Placement Offers (PPO) on completion of the 6 months training
  • Practice School program institutionalizes the essential link between educational and professional worlds, and prepares BITS MBA students to face and meet the challenges of the professional world before they enter the industry.
Thesis

Students also have the option to enrol for six month’s thesis, instead the Practice School. Interested students are assigned a faculty from the department for thesis supervision. These students often opt for further education in institutes of global repute.

Admission

Admission to MBA Programme:

Management education at BITS Pilani brings cutting edge thinking and best learning practices to its flagship MBA program through three semesters of rigorous classroom training coupled with provision for 6 months exposure to industry through structured and evaluative internship (Practice School) making this programme one of its kind.
 

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates holding a bachelor’s degree in any discipline or its equivalent with at least 60% aggregate marks, and having studied at least one subject in mathematics or statistics at the high school (10+2) or higher level. Exposure to a programming language is desirable. Meeting the minimum eligibility does not guarantee admission into the programme.
 
Candidates will be required to appear for the Business Analytics Aptitude Test (BAAT) conducted by BITS Pilani. Candidates will be shortlisted for Personal Interview based on their performance in the Business Analytics Aptitude Test (BAAT). Final selection will be based on overall performance in i) the Business Analytics Aptitude Test (BAAT), ii) Personal Interview & iii) CAT / XAT / GMAT (if available), along with prior work experience, and previous academic history.
 

Assistantship / Scholarship:

Applicants for admission to the MBA programme are considered for Teaching Assistantship. Students are selected on the basis of their skills and / or their CGPA. Those who are selected for teaching assistantship are required to participate in teaching and other development programs of the institute under guidance of faculty. The students can be allotted the work into three different categories where: 
  • Students are required to work and aid in a particular course under guidance of the faculty in their own department (Department of Management, BITS Pilani).
  • Students are required to aid in the daily activities of the Department of Management BITS Pilani, Pilani campus.
  • Students are required to work and aid in a particular course under the guidance of the faculty in some other department provided their skills match with the required skill set that the department is necessitating.
Students can avail a “financial assistant ship” as per their requirement.
