  • Ph.D. Biological Sciences

    Presently there are 22 research scholars in the department focusing on their research work in different thrust areas of the department. The input for Ph.D in the department is usually any 4 year programme equivalent to M.Sc Bio. Sc. Of BITS. The selection is made through advt. followed by written entrance and interview. Usually a two semester course work is recommended for Ph.D students upon joining the Institute.

    Salient achievements :
    1.       The first Ph.D was awarded to Ms. Shipra Mehra in April 2011 from this new campus which started only in June 2008.
    2.       Ms. Madhu Poornima P. presented a research paper it the European Human Genetics Conference held at Amsterdam, The Netherlands in May, 2011.
    3.       Ms Anuradha Pal was awarded the Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship for working at Concordia University, Montreal in the laboratory of Dr  Barbara Woodside. Ms. Anuradha Pal presented a research paper in the SFN-2011 conference held at Washington DC in November, 2011 .  
     

Achievements

  1. Prof. Suman Kapur is appointed as Shri B K Birla & Smt. Sarala Birla Chair Professor.
  2. From July 2010, Dr. P. Sankar Ganesh, Assistant Professor, Department of Biological Sciences, has become the Technical Committee Member of the Collaborative Working Group on Solid Waste Management in Low- and Middle-income Countries, St. Gallen, Switzerland.
  3. On May 2011, Dr. P. Sankar Ganesh received the Individual Developing Country Membership of International Solid Waste Association (ISWA), Vienna, Austria.
  4. On December 2011, Dr. P. Sankar Ganesh has been appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of the Editorial Board of the GSTF Journal on Bioinformatics and Biotechnology (JBio).
  5. From March 2012, Dr. P. Sankar Ganesh has become Lifetime Member of the Society of Toxicology (STOX), India.
