Dr. Chittaranjan Hota is a Senior Professor of Computer Science at BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, with over 35 years of experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from BITS Pilani, an M.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering from NITTTR Chandigarh, and a B.E. in Computer Engineering from Amravati(MS). His research interests span Big-data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Agentic AI and Machine Learning with over 150 publications and the supervision of more than 18 PhD students.
His current research focuses on secure Bio-Cyber-Physical Systems under India's National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems, funded by DST, Govt. of India. He is also a Consultant to Mindmap consulting, Hyderabad in the area of Generative AI. He has led multiple research projects funded by Ministry of IT, Govt. of India; Dept. of Electronics & Information Technology, Govt. of India; University Grants Commission, Govt. of India; Progress Software, India; Intel, India; Tata Consultancy Services, India; and NWO, Netherlands covering areas such as Network Threat Monitoring, Code Tamper-proofing, Smart Healthcare, and Cognitive IoT.
Dr. Hota currently serves as the Professor In-Charge for BITSAT, a university-wide responsibility he has held for the past decade. With a distinguished career in academic leadership, he has held key administrative roles at BITS Pilani, including Associate Dean of Admissions and founding Head of the Computer Science Department at BITS Hyderabad. Additionally, he has played pivotal roles in IT infrastructure development as the founding Faculty In-Charge of the Information Processing Division at BITS Hyderabad and as the leader of the ERP roadmap for BITS under the Vision 2020 initiative at BITS Pilani.
Dr. Hota has had the honor of participating in academic collaborations and visiting professorship appointments lasting from two to six months at renowned international institutions, including the University of New South Wales (Australia), University of Cagliari (Italy), Aalto University (Finland), City University (UK), and Vrije University (Netherlands). His contributions have been recognized with prestigious honors, including the Australian Vice-Chancellors Award and two Erasmus Mundus Fellowships from the European Commission. At BITS Pilani, his work has been honored with the institution's Certificate of Excellence.
A Senior Member of IEEE and an active member of ACM, CSI, IE, and ISTE, Dr. Hota continues to drive innovation and excellence in computer science, making significant contributions to academia, research, and industry on both national and international stages.
