About the Faculty

Asish Bera is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems, BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus, Rajasthan, since April, 2022. He received Ph.D. degree from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, and M.Tech degree from Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, WB. He worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the Intelligent Visual Computing Centre, Department of Computer Science, Edge Hill University, U.K. 

His current research interests include applications of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision, Image Classification, and Human Activity Recognition. Some of his research works are multi-disciplinary, such as Agricultural applications. His research articles are published in top-tier scientific venues (IEEE Trans Image Processing, IEEE Trans SMC: Systems, IEEE Trans Instrumentation and Measurement, IEEE Trans AgriFood Electronics,  AAAI, etc.) in collaboration with multiple international universities. 

Dr Bera is a reviewer of several reputed international journals and program committee member of various international conferences. He is a senior member of IEEE. As an editorial board member of Scientific Reports, Nature Portfolio, he has received the Springer Nature Editor of Distinction Award 2025 for Author Services. 

Recently, as a principal investigator (PI), he has received a Prime Minister Early Career Research Grant (ECRG-2024) funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), India.

Applications are invited for eligible Indian citizens for the Junior Research Fellow (JRF) positions at Department of Computer Science and Information Systems, BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus, Rajasthan, India, for the following ANRF-ECRG funded project:

Development of a Vision-Language Model for in situ Plant Health Diagnosis Using Visual and Soil Information

Master’s (M.E. / M.Tech. / M.Sc.) in CSE /IT /AI-ML /ECE or related fields with a minimum aggregate of 60% or 6.5/10 CGPA. Candidates currently appearing in the last semester of Master’s degree may also apply. Candidates having Bachelor’s degree in aforementioned or related fields with good academic records or job experience may also apply within 30-June-2025.
