  • Prof. Amitabh Jha (George H. Wallace Chair Professor in the Department of Chemistry, Acadia University, Canada) will be visiting the Department on May 19th, 2012 and delivering a seminar. Click here for more details.
  • Prof. Chien-Hsiang Chang (National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan) visited the Department on May 8th, 2012, and delivered a seminar.
  • Dr. Mukund Jha (Nipissing University, Canada) visited the Department on May 5th, 2012 and delivered a seminar on "Synthesis of Novel Heterocycles using Indolin-2-ones and Indoline-2-thiones as Building Blocks".

  • Dr. Anil Kumar has been awarded Harrison McCain Foundation Award of visiting Professorship for the year 2012 by Acadia University, Canada. Congratulations, Dr. Anil!
  • Archana Chowdhury, Suman Kumari, Kasi Pericherla, Mukund Tantak, Amrit Sharma and Rituparna Banerjee students successfully presented their Ph.D. research proposals to the Departmental Research Committee on April 12 and 14, 2012. Congratulations to all of them!
  • The Department organized a one-day symposium : "Recent Trends in Chemical Sciences" on Sunday, March 25, 2012. Thanks to the participants, students, faculty and staff for making the event successful. Click here to view the pictures.
  • Warm welcome to the new faculty members: Dr. Indresh Kumar, Dr. Surojit Pande and Dr. Rajeev Sakhuja.
  • Congratulations to Ms. M. Sowmiya for her successful Ph.D. defence.
  • Prof. Rakesh Kumar Mahajan (Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar) and Prof. Ashok Kumar Mishra (IIT Madras, Chennai) visited the Department on February 27th, 2012 and delivered seminars.
  • Dr. Gopal Chakraborty (University of Calcutta, Kolkata) delivered a talk on "Targeted Anti-cancer Therapy: Tubulin is a Major Target for Anti-cancer Drug Development" on November 8, 2011.
  • General Chemistry lecture slides are now available for download on nalanda and can be accessed till the end of the first semester of 2011-12. The login details will be announced in the class.
  • Dr. Kallolmay Biswas (University of Edinburg, Edinburg, UK) delivered a talk on "Selective catalysis for Organic synthesis and Development of Drugs for Medicinal Chemistry" on August 9, 2011.
  • Welcome to the new Chemistry students of the first-degree programme. The faculty-students interaction is arranged in Room # 3215 on Sunday, 31st July, 2011 at 9:30 a.m.
  • Gautam is now Dr. Gautam Patel and has accepted the post-doctoral research associateship at the North-eastern University, Boston, MA. Good luck, Dr. Gautam!

  • Congratulations to Bhupendra Mishra for winning the first prize for his poster presentation in the 15th International Conference on "Bridging gaps in Discovery and Development: Chemical and Biological Sciences for Affordable Health, Wellness and Sustainability" (February 2011) held at Saurashtra University, Rajkot.
  • Mr. Manoj Kumar Muthyala received the best poster award in the "National Symposium on Organic Synthesis" at IIS University, Jaipur (February 2011). Well done, Manoj!

Overview

Established in 1944, we are one of the oldest departments on the campus. The department has grown with strong research interests in the Physical Chemistry, Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Bioorganic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Theoretical and Computational Chemistry, etc.

Equipped with a state of the art instrumentation facility and research laboratories, we are counted amongst the best departments for education in Chemistry across the country.
