Dr Saurabh Gupta holds a PhD in Infrastructure Engineering & Management from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, and an M.Tech (Gold Medalist) in Construction Technology and Management from the National Institute of Technical Teachers' Training and Research, Bhopal. He brings over 8 years of experience spanning academia, research, and international development sectors. Prior to joining BITS Pilani, he was associated with the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), managing and mentoring research projects globally and curating knowledge products and platforms; he also held faculty and research positions at NICMAR University, Pune, and at IIT Kanpur.
His research focuses on construction project scheduling under uncertainty, UAV-based construction site safety monitoring, satellite- and remote sensing–based post-disaster infrastructure damage assessment, and the application of machine learning and deep learning to construction management and disaster-resilience challenges.
Dr Gupta has received several fellowships and grants in recognition of his research, including the CDRI Fellowship Grant (2022–23), the DST NIDHI EIR Fellowship, the Humboldt Fellowship for German-language training, and funding from GRP under the Hindu Kush Himalaya Innovation Challenge for Entrepreneurs for a GIS-based road resilience platform in Sikkim. His accolades include the MAY Award for Engineering Excellence at IIT Kanpur, the KPIT Shodh Award, the Madhya Pradesh Young Scientist Award, a University Gold Medal for his master's research, and several best paper and poster awards at international conferences.
With multiple peer-reviewed journal and conference publications to his credit, he is also involved in translating research into 11 Indian patents and design registrations. Dr Gupta's work seeks to advance resilient, data-driven infrastructure management while promoting interdisciplinary innovation at the intersection of construction engineering and emerging digital technologies.
