1. Project Title:  The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in Sri Lanka: ‘Harmonious World’ Vis-à-vis Liberal International Order?

Funding Organization: BITS Pilani

Amount: INR  2 Lakh, Duration: 2020-22

Brief Description of the Project: The proposed research project intends to define and explore the Chinese conceptualization of the Harmonious World and its characteristics as a theoretical framework to comprehend China’s bilateral engagement with countries like Sri Lanka. The purpose is to understand the nature of the Harmonious World and investigate whether the Chinese concept of a Harmonious World attempts to redefine/challenge the normative underpinnings of sovereignty, paving the way for a hierarchical or Sino-centric global order, and, if so, how. Accordingly, this study examines China-Sri Lanka engagement in the post-civil war scenario, and most of this engagement has been attributed to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

The project will identify challenges in delivering personalised learning experiences and assess the effectiveness of LLM-based tools in addressing these issues. The study will involve qualitative and quantitative methods, including interviews, focus groups, and pilot deployments in selected communities. The anticipated outcomes include improved student engagement, enhanced learning experiences, and culturally adapted educational materials. The findings will contribute to bridging gaps in digital learning accessibility, particularly in underprivileged and resource-constrained settings.

3. Project Title: “Documenting Sushma Swaraj's Diplomatic Journey (2014-2019): Reflections on her Decision Making.”

Funding Organization: Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR)

Amount: INR  15 Lakh, Ongoing

Brief Description of the Project:

The proposed project examines the role of women in foreign policy through a focused analysis of the diplomatic contributions of Sushma Swaraj, one of India's most influential female politicians and the second woman to hold the office of Minister of External Affairs. The project aims to document Mrs. Swaraj's leadership role in the External Affairs Ministry, focusing on a few selected themes stemming from her decisions as a post-colonial female leader. The project draws upon post-colonial femininity as the theoretical framework to examine Mrs. Sushma Swaraj's leadership role as she embodied a distinctly Indian, post-colonial feminine identity in her diplomatic role. This project analyzes the diplomatic strategies and leadership qualities that marked Swaraj's tenure, particularly in a male-dominated political landscape.

4. Project Title:  Negotiating Identity and Belonging: The Integration Experiences of Second-Generation Indian Immigrant Females in Dublin/Ireland

Funding Organization: New Foundations, Research Ireland

Amount: €12,000, Ongoing

Brief Description of the Project: IrishInd2G explores how young Irish female adults of Indian origin are actively shaping and creating identity and belonging in Ireland’s evolving multicultural society. The project’s central premise is that gender is a key lens through which to understand how young adults navigate social, cultural and institutional constraints and opportunities. At the same time, religion, caste, class, and intergenerational status intersect to shape that experience. In collaboration with the National Library of Ireland, the project will contribute towards a shared story of 21st century Ireland in which minority groups’ voices and experiences are heard, discussed and documented.
