Mukul Joshi

Assistant Professor, Department of Biological Sciences, BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus

Plant Biotechnology
Department of Biological Sciences, Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani- 333031, Rajasthan. India.
Dr. Mukul Joshi completed PhD in Biotechnology from CSIR-Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Institute, Bhavnagar in affiliation with MKB University, Bhavnagar (Gujarat) in 2013. He has spent six years in postdoctoral research from the Volcani Center, Agricultural Research Organization (Israel) and Department of Botany, University of Delhi, Delhi. Dr. Joshi's research experience includes abiotic stress genomics and enhancing abiotic stress tolerance in transgenic plants, root system architecture, molecular characterization of fruit peel development and fruit-cracking resistance following the application of PGRs. Dr. Joshi joined BITS Pilani as Ramalingaswami Fellow in the Department of Biological Sciences in 2019 and later on as Assistant Professor in 2020.

Currently, Dr. Joshi is working on many plant molecular biology, physiology and biochemistry aspects which include:
  • Exploring known and novel heat-shock proteins and factors in a thermotolerant plant Prosopis cineraria by transcriptome study and producing abiotic stress tolerant rice by transgenics and genome editing.
  • Root system architecture and root-omics during drought and thermotolerance in Prosopis cineraria, a promising desert plant.
  • Growth assessment, phenotyping and biochemical characterization of edible desert plants with ML for environmental impact evaluation.
