Research Experiences and Expatiates

  • Research Assistant in VECC Calcutta in Helium Recovery Division: My experimental research work started from here in 1990 with Dr. Debashis Ghosh who was student of Prof. Shyama Das Chetterjee. Main focus of the research was to understand the release of trapped helium and other gasses due to tectonic movement of earth's layers and to predict the possibility of earth quake and other geological symptoms.
  • During my Ph.D. in IIT Kanpur nuclear physics laboratory, I have used Mossbauer spectroscopy and positron annihilation spectroscopy. Both the techniques are delicate nuclear techniques where I used different radioactive sources including 57Co source of 50 mC strength. A closed cycle helium cryostat to produce low temperature closed to 8K was the main equipment for my research. In addition, I have used X-ray, SEM, TEM, EDAX etc to study minerals, steels, alloys, coals and other different samples.
  • My theoretical work on the study of Ti-C based ternary alloys phase diagram started from 'Materials and Metallurgical Department' in IIT Kanpur under Professor N. Chakraborti as research associate under a DRDO project. I have a good contributions in this field.
  • My second post-doctoral work in Emory University was mainly on the study of reaction kinematics of different protein. For that I have used liquid helium and nitrogen Mossbauer spectroscopy and the radioactive source of 100 mC. There I was trained by radiological department of Emory Medical School and Hospital about the use of radioactive sources and how to protect from radiations hazards.

    5. I started my theoretical computational work in 2006 in BITS Pilani. I mainly study different hybrid semiconductors nanoclusters, nanotubes, hydrogen storage systems, and other systems using density functional theory. This is computational modelling and prediction of different new materials with potential applications. I have produced three Ph.D. students in this field.

Rajasthan farmers benefited from solar water pumps: Study (The Hindu, September 28, 2018)

A scientific study conducted by Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani, has found mismatch between investment in solar energy sources and employment generation in the sector, but has stated that the farmers in Rajasthan have immensely benefited from the solar photovoltaic (SPV) water pumping systems.

The study has also found a significant decline in the consumption of fuel in the agriculture sector. Scientist Krishna M. led the study as the principal investigator of a project funded by the Indian Council of Social Science Research for addressing some distinct aspects of renewable and non-renewable energy sources at micro and macro levels [Excerpt from the article].

India is set to become the youngest country by 2020 (The Hindu, April 18, 2018)

Every third person in an Indian city today is a youth. In about seven years, the median individual in India will be 29 years, very likely a city-dweller, making it the youngest country in the world. India is set to experience a dynamic transformation as the population burden of the past turns into a demographic dividend, but the benefits will be tempered with social and spatial inequalities [Excerpt from the article].
