Prof. Bhupendra Kumar Sharma is a distinguished scientist, researcher, and academician at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani, with an extensive academic and research career spanning mathematical modelling, computational science, fluid dynamics, biomedical systems, and advanced thermal and energy technologies. His research contributions have earned international recognition, including his inclusion among the World’s Top 2% Scientists in 2025 and 2026 in the Stanford University–Elsevier scientific impact assessment.

With 150+ research publications, 4,000+ citations, an i10-index approaching 100, 10 patents/patent applications, 2 books, and 5 book chapters, Prof. Sharma has established a substantial research profile through contributions to internationally recognized journals and interdisciplinary collaborations with researchers and academic institutions worldwide.

Research Excellence & Scientific Contributions

Prof. Sharma's research is positioned at the intersection of mathematics, computational science, engineering, biomedical sciences, and energy systems. His principal research areas include Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), mathematical modelling, bio-fluid mechanics, biomedical flow systems, blood flow through stenosed and aneurysmal arteries, MHD and EMHD flows, nanofluids and hybrid nanofluids, heat and mass transfer, entropy generation, solar and thermal energy systems, and numerical methods for differential equations.

His research integrates mathematical modelling, numerical analysis, computational simulation, sensitivity analysis, and interdisciplinary methodologies to address complex scientific and engineering problems. His work spans applications in biomedical transport phenomena, advanced fluids, thermal management, renewable energy, and complex flow systems.

Research Impact & Doctoral Mentorship

Prof. Sharma has successfully guided 7 Ph.D. scholars to completion and currently supervises 7 registered Ph.D. scholars. Through doctoral supervision and collaborative research, he contributes to advancing research in mathematical and computational sciences and their interdisciplinary applications.

His research network includes collaborations with international researchers and academic institutions, supporting interdisciplinary investigations across mathematics, engineering, biomedical sciences, nanotechnology, and energy technologies.

Academic Leadership & Professional Service

Prof. Sharma has made significant contributions to academic leadership, doctoral education, curriculum development, research administration, and institutional academic activities. As Former Head of the Department of Mathematics, he has contributed to departmental leadership and academic development, in addition to undertaking responsibilities related to doctoral committees, curriculum development, academic evaluation, research activities, and institutional service.

He has also contributed to the wider international academic community through editorial-board and advisory responsibilities, peer review for reputed international journals, doctoral thesis examination, and external academic evaluation. His professional reviewing activities include journals published by leading international publishers such as Springer, Elsevier, and Taylor & Francis.
