Assistant Professor, Department of Management Studies.

Dr Rehan Husain is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus, with more than five years of experience in management and business education. His teaching experience spans undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA, business analytics, and doctoral programmes, enabling him to work with learners at different stages of academic and professional development.
His teaching portfolio includes Marketing Management, Digital Marketing, Consumer Behavior, Strategic Marketing, Product and Brand Management, Marketing Research and Metrics, Marketing Analytics, Principles of Management, Organizational Behavior, and Research Methods. He has taught students enrolled in BBA, MBA, MBA in International Business, MBA in Business Analytics, and PhD programmes. He has developed considerable experience in adapting course content, learning activities, assessments, and student support to different levels of study.
Dr Husain’s teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that management education should enable students to move beyond the acquisition of theoretical knowledge towards its critical, practical, and responsible application. He therefore seeks to create learning environments in which students are encouraged to question assumptions, evaluate evidence, connect theory with practice, and develop the confidence required to address complex managerial challenges.
A defining feature of his teaching is the integration of contemporary business cases, live market examples, simulations, analytical exercises, student-led discussions, and applied projects. He regularly uses examples from international and regional organisations to demonstrate how marketing and management principles operate in practice. These have included cases involving Harley-Davidson, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Facebook, Airtel, Talabat, Noon, SHEIN, Sephora, luxury brands, hospitality organisations, digital platforms, and technology-enabled service businesses.
In Marketing Management and Strategic Marketing, Dr Husain encourages students to analyse markets, evaluate competitors, identify customer segments, assess value propositions, and develop well-supported strategic recommendations. Classroom activities are designed to strengthen students’ understanding of segmentation, targeting, positioning, branding, customer value, competitive advantage, market growth, resource allocation, and long-term strategic development.
In Digital Marketing, he introduces students to digital customer journeys, social media strategy, content development, online platforms, campaign planning, engagement metrics, digital consumer behaviour, and marketing technologies. Students are encouraged to design and evaluate digital campaigns, interpret performance indicators, and consider the strategic and ethical implications of data-driven marketing.
His teaching in Consumer Behaviour combines psychological, social, cultural, and technological perspectives. Students examine consumer motivation, perception, learning, attitudes, decision-making, social influence, identity, consumption experiences, and post-purchase behaviour. Contemporary marketplace examples are used to help students understand how consumer behaviour is shaped by digital technologies, online communities, influencers, brands, and rapidly changing social contexts.
In Marketing Research and Metrics, Dr Husain guides students through the complete process of addressing a managerial problem, formulating research questions, selecting suitable methods, collecting and analysing data, interpreting findings, and presenting actionable recommendations. He places particular emphasis on helping students understand how evidence can support better managerial judgement.
His Marketing Analytics teaching focuses on using data to inform marketing decisions. Students engage with customer analysis, segmentation, performance measurement, campaign evaluation, predictive reasoning, and the interpretation of analytical outputs. Rather than treating analytics as a purely technical activity, he encourages students to consider the managerial meaning, limitations, and practical relevance of the evidence they generate.
At doctoral level, Dr Husain contributes to the development of students’ academic and methodological capabilities. His teaching supports PhD scholars in understanding research design, literature review, theory development, measurement, qualitative and quantitative methods, interpretation, academic writing, and scholarly communication. He seeks to build confidence while maintaining high standards of rigour, transparency, and academic integrity.
Dr Husain makes purposeful use of digital tools and emerging technologies in teaching. He has incorporated artificial intelligence platforms, interactive polls, gamified quizzes, digital presentation tools, content-generation platforms, and collaborative technologies into classroom activities. He encourages students to use these tools critically and responsibly, with appropriate attention to verification, originality, academic integrity, and the continued importance of human judgement.
His approach to assessment is based on constructive alignment between intended learning outcomes, classroom activities, and evaluation. He has designed case analyses, analytical assignments, marketing plans, campaign proposals, presentations, quizzes, simulations, reflective exercises, group projects, and applied examinations. His assessments are intended to evaluate not only subject knowledge, but also critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, communication, teamwork, and managerial judgement.
Feedback is an important component of his teaching practice. Dr Husain uses formative and summative feedback to help students identify their strengths, address areas for improvement, and become more independent learners. He places particular emphasis on clear expectations, transparent assessment criteria, timely guidance, and the practical application of feedback in subsequent work.
Student mentoring is another significant dimension of his academic role. He supports students with dissertations, academic projects, presentations, career planning, job applications, interview preparation, and professional development. His mentoring approach combines structured guidance with encouragement and individual attention. He has worked closely with students to improve their confidence, communication skills, analytical abilities, and readiness for professional opportunities.
Dr Husain is committed to inclusive education and recognises that students enter higher education with different levels of prior knowledge, confidence, language ability, professional exposure, and academic preparation. He therefore uses varied teaching methods, accessible explanations, structured activities, and multiple opportunities for participation while maintaining appropriate academic standards.
He aims to create a classroom environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions, sharing perspectives, engaging in debate, and developing their own academic and professional voice. His teaching approach encourages active participation while respecting different backgrounds, experiences, and learning needs.
Beyond classroom teaching, Dr Husain contributes to curriculum development, doctoral education, academic administration, and the wider learning environment of the Department of Management Studies. He is actively involved in conceptualising and organising guest lectures, academic workshops, conferences, doctoral development activities, student engagement initiatives, and other educational events.
These activities extend his contribution beyond the courses he teaches directly. By bringing together students, faculty members, practitioners, and external speakers, he helps create opportunities for industry engagement, professional learning, interdisciplinary discussion, and intellectual exchange.
Dr Husain also contributes to course planning, assessment design, student supervision, academic coordination, and the continuing improvement of teaching and learning practices. His approach to academic contribution is collaborative and developmental, with an emphasis on strengthening the student experience and supporting the institution's wider educational objectives.
His teaching practice has evolved through experience, student feedback, professional engagement, reflection, and continuing development. He regularly reviews course content, learning activities, assessment methods, and student outcomes to ensure that his teaching remains current, rigorous, inclusive, and relevant to the changing demands of management education.
Overall, Dr Husain’s teaching is characterised by five interconnected priorities: conceptual clarity, practical relevance, experiential learning, responsible use of technology, and student development. Through his teaching, mentoring, curriculum contributions, and broader academic engagement, he seeks to prepare students to apply marketing and management knowledge critically, ethically, and confidently in complex organizational environments.
