Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering

Dr. Gaurav Sharma is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus. He received his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and previously served as a Research Associate at the University of Bristol, UK. His research spans across the computational and experimental study of Fluid–Structure Interaction (FSI), with particular expertise in studying Flow-Induced Vibrations (FIV) using Immersed Boundary methods.
His work aims to advance the understanding of complex flow–structure coupling phenomena with applications in energy harvesting, heat transfer augmentation, vibration suppression and data-driven Cyber-Physical FSI System development. He actively develops high-fidelity computational solvers and integrates data-driven approaches to enhance predictive modelling of FSI systems. Dr. Sharma’s research has been published in leading international journals and is supported by competitive research funding.
Dr. Sharma is currently accepting motivated PhD applicants interested in CFD, FEM, Fluid–Structure Interaction, and data-driven modelling for engineering systems.
