About the Faculty

Dr. Prabhat N Jha completed his M.Sc. in Biotechnology from L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga (Bihar) and, obtained the Ph.D. degree in Biotechnology from Banaras Hindu University, India, where he studied plant growth promoting properties and colonization mechanism of endophytic diazotrophic bacteria recovered from rice and other plants. He also studied the effect of UV-B on the physiology of cyanobacteria. In 2006, he was awarded DBT-postdoctoral fellowship to work at Plant Molecular Biology Division, National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow, India where he worked on the construction of cry genes expressed from a bidirectional promoter. Dr. Jha has been working as Associate Professor at Department of Biological Sciences, BITS Pilani since April 2008. Further, he was awarded Raman Fellowship under India-USA knowledge initiative program in 2013 and worked with Frank Dazzo at Michigan state university for a year where he studied microbial diversity using CMEIAS suites of software, and bacterial community analysis using Next Generation Sequencing platform. Considering research as a soul of teaching, Dr. Jha has been working in the field of plant-microbe interaction, biodegradation of polychlorinated biphenyls, microbial ecology, and molecular mechanism of host-pathogen interaction.
