Dr. Amit Jain is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, BITS-Pilani, Pilani Campus, Rajasthan, India. He received a PhD from BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus in 2015. Prior to joining the Pilani Campus in 2006, he had been a faculty member in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Institute of Technology, Nirma University, Ahmedabad, since June 2003.
Dr. Jain has more than twenty years of teaching, research, and administrative experience. At the Master's level, he has taught Reaction Engineering, Biological Wastewater Treatment Technique, Advanced Process Control, Research Methodology, Industrial Process Safety & Biochemical Engineering. Whilst at the undergraduate level, he has taught Classical Thermodynamics, Chemical Process Calculation, Fluid Mechanics, Process Design Principles, Chemical Process Technology, Separation Processes, Process Dynamics and Control, Process Plant Safety, Biochemical Engineering, Environment Pollution Control, Numerical Methods for Chemical Engineers, Optimization, Structure and Properties of Materials, and Measurement Techniques. Among all the subjects, he is fond of teaching Biochemical Engineering.
Prof. Jain is actively pursuing research in the production, characterization and application development of: Biosurfactants from agro-industrial wastes, Biopolymers (PHAs) from waste oils/cheap substrates, Cellulose Nano-crystal (CNC) based composite, Algae-based Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS), and allied areas. Several PhD scholars, Master's degree dissertations, and Undergraduate thesis & projects students are actively working under his supervision at Biochemical and Environmental Engineering (BEE)-Research Lab. He has about 30 publications in refereed journals and conferences, as well as a few book chapters.
Apart from teaching and research, he has held various administrative positions. Currently, he is a member of the Departmental Committee of Research (DRC)-In charge of PhD qualifying examinations, Convener, Departmental Committee of Academics (2022-24); Member, Academic Counselling Board (2020-26); Honorary Chairman, IIChE Pilani Regional Centre (2022-onwards). He is also the founding Advisor of AIChE BITS Pilani Students' Chapter. He has organised various conferences and workshops at BITS Pilani since 2006. He has also been part of conferences and workshops at other academic institutions outside BITS, serving as an invited speaker, expert lecturer, session chair, and reviewer.
Prof. Jain is a part of various professional bodies in India and abroad: Life Member-Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE); Senior Member-American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) until 2020; Member-International Association of Engineers (IAENG); Member-Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI); Member-Asia-Pacific Chemical, Biological & Environmental Engineering Society (APCBEES). Member-International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology (IACSIT) - Applied Chemical Engineering Society (ACES).
