Dr. Venkatesan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus. He received his Ph.D. in Soft Robotics from National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli, India where he developed elephant trunk shaped soft pneumatic actuator for robots, following a Master's degree in Computer Aided Design and a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Anna University, Chennai.
Before joining BITS Pilani Dubai, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Hanbat National University, South Korea, where he developed soft robotic glove for finger rehabilitation using shape memory alloy actuators. He has also held academic positions as an Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (Adhoc) and Guru Nanak University, Hyderabad, India.
His research interests include soft robotics, rehabilitation robotics, wearable devices, smart materials and actuators, mobile robotics, machine learning, and product design. At BITS Pilani Dubai, Dr. Venkatesan is committed to excellence in teaching and research while fostering innovation in soft robotics, smart materials, and intelligent mechanical systems. His goal is to bridge fundamental engineering principles with emerging technologies, enabling students to contribute to next-generation robotic and automation solutions.
