BITS PILANI GOA SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAM (BGSRP) 2024 (BGSRP Program Poster)

Birla Institute of Technology and Science(BITS) Pilani, K K Birla Goa Campus (BITS Goa), an Institute of Eminence in Technology and Sciences, conducts cutting-edge research in the areas of Engineering Computer Sciences and Information Systems, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering), Sciences (Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics), Humanities and Social Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Economics and Finance.

The summer internship program will provide a platform to young academic talents scholars and researchers from reputed academic institutions who are pursuing Graduation / Post-Graduation/ Research programs in the disciplines of Science and  / Technology which are relevant to BITS Pilani programs to interact with Scientists and Engineers on campus. The Scheme has the following stated objectives:

  1. To allow young academic talent to be associated with BITS Pilani scientists for mutual learning benefit;
  2. The "Interns" may benefit from exposure to the Research Institute's functioning and its established ability to apply theory into practice. This program would facilitate the young talents to choose a career path;

Applications are invited from academically outstanding and highly motivated graduate and postgraduate students of Indian Nationality for the Summer Internship Programme to be held in an offline mode at the BITS Goa Campus from 1st Week of June to  4th Week of  July.

Please note that ONLY a limited number of projects will be available for the internship and hence a limited number of students will be selected. The selected participants will work on a specific project with a faculty member of the Institute. No financial support will be provided to the selected candidates. 

The maximum duration of the BGSRP will be  60 days starting from the 1st week of June 2024 to 4th week of July 2024.

Last date of receiving the applications from the candidates: 5 PM of 5th February 2024 (Monday).

Eligibility criteria

The following candidates are eligible to apply for the  Internship Scheme:

  • The candidate should be a citizen of India;
  • The candidate should be pursuing UG / PG from a recognized University/Institution (India/Abroad);
  • The candidates who have just completed UG/PG from a recognized University / Institution, seeking an internship opportunity (within six months from the date of award of degree) for profile enhancement;
  • The candidate should possess an aggregate of minimum 60% or a CGPA of 6.32 on a scale of 10 at all levels.
  • The disciplines/departments from which the applications are encouraged are Engineering (CS&IS, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering), Sciences (Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics), Humanities & Social Sciences, Economics and Finance and related subjects.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are KVPY/DST INSPIRE fellows. Please note that no financial support will be provided to the selected participants. See General Instructions below also in this regard.

Duration: 60 days from 1st Week of June-to-4th Week of July. 

The selected candidates(limited in numbers) will work on project problems under the guidance of the faculty members of BITS Pilani K K Birla Goa campus.

Important Dates and Activities

  • Last date of receiving the applications from the candidates: 5 PM of 5th February 2024. 
  • Once the online application process is completed, the student is requested to send his/her one page CV in pdf format(to be name as XXX_BGSRP2024_CV.pdf where XXX = Candidate's first name in Capital Letter) to the email address bgsrpquery@goa.bits-pilani.ac.in. Please write in the subject line of the email as My CV - XXX_BGSRP2024_CV.   The CV should reach us before on or before 5th February 2024(Friday).
  • He/she should also arrange a Letter of Recommendation(LOR) from his/her  HOD/Dean/College Principal/Director in supporting the BGSRP application.
  • Applications received only through the proper registration along with the LOR will only be considered for evaluation. Incomplete application will not be considered for  evaluation.
  • List of selected candidates will be uploaded on the BGSRP website in the first week or second Week of March 2024.
  • Selected candidates need to report to the BITS Goa campus in the 1st week of June 2024.

General Instructions

  1. Student Applicants should wait 3-4 days for a reply from the concerned faculty members before applying to another project. The final selection right lies with the concerned faculty member subject to fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria and the project requirement as mentioned above. 
  2. The selected applicants report to the Heads of Departments of BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa campus. 
  3. At the end of the internship, the student will be required to submit a project report and deliver a presentation in the department.
  4. The Departmental Research Committee(DRC) will forward a soft copy of the Project report duly certified by the Project Guide to BGSRP Program Coordinator, BITS Goa Campus.
  5. Student cannot publish/use the results from the project work without the written permission of the project guide at  BITS Goa campus.
  6. The accommodation in the student’s hostel will be made by the Student Welfare Division(SWD) during the period (i.e.between  the 1st week of June 2024 to 4th week of July 2024) of the BGSRP program on a payment(subsidized rate(50% of the present rate)) basis. For two months stay in BITS Goa hostel, it will cost around Rs. 6000.00 (Six Thousand Rupees).
  7. The SWD will provide temporary Identity cards to the students selected for the BGSRP program. The students should keep their identity cards visible when in BITS Goa campus.
  8. BITS Goa mess/canteen facilities can be availed on a payment basis as per applicable rates from time to time.
  9. The training at BITS Goa will NOT cover expenses towards Medical and Transport.
  10. Please note that No financial support(i.e. honorarium) will be provided to the selected students.
  11. Students will have to take prior permission, in case of absence, if any, during the entire project duration. Any deviations to this will result in the termination of the project, and the information to this effect shall be passed on to the HoD.
  12. Students will abide by the rules and regulations of the BITS Goa Campus.
  13. A certificate will be issued at the end of the training, subject to delivering a final seminar at BITS Goa and receiving an endorsement from the project supervisor.
  14. Evaluation at BITS Goa cannot be used as an assessment to be carried out by the college/University towards the fulfillment of granting the degree. The students will have to follow the norms of the University/college/Institute for their semester project evaluation.
  15. No article(s) resulting from the work carried out in BITS Goa as a part of the project training can be submitted in Technology-fest/Conferences/Seminars/Journal without the written permission of the Project Supervisor of BITS Goa.
