About The Speakers

Professor Ian Underwood, FREng, FRSE, is a leading expert in electronic displays and micro-optoelectronic systems at the University of Edinburgh. Renowned for coinventing liquid crystal microdisplay (LCoS) technology, his innovations led to the founding of successful ventures such as Micropix and MicroEmissive Displays. Prof. Underwood holds a Guinness World Record “smallest tv screen in the world”. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, 2005; Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng), 2008; Institute of Physics, 2008; and Society for Information Display, 2022. He is Publications Chair at the Society for Information Display and a mentor in the Enterprise Hub at the RAEng.

Professor Ioannis (John) Kymissis is the Kenneth Brayer Professor of Electrical Engineering at Columbia University. He joined the faculty in 2006 as an assistant professor. He obtained his S.B., M.Eng. and Ph.D. degrees f rom MIT, and also participated in a cooperative program through which he completed his M.Eng. thesis at IBM Research. He also held a postdoctoral appointment at MIT and worked as a consulting engineer at QDVision before joining Columbia. He is a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), National Academy of Inventors (NAI), and Optica. He is the current president of the Society for Information Display (SID). Professor Kymissis' research focuses on the fabrication, characterization, and applications of thin film electronics, with a particular focus in the applications of organic semiconductors, hybrid systems, microLED, and recrystallized devices.

Dr. Abhishek Kumar Srivastava is an Associate Professor and Associate Director of the Centre for Display Research at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Society for Information Displays. He is a senior member of the Society for Information Display (SID), United States, and a member of IEEE, ILCSOC, and SPIE. His current research interests include photo alignment technology, nanomaterials, and fast-responding liquid crystals for advanced displays and photonic devices. In 2014, he received the ILCS Early-Career Award: The Michi Nakata Prize for his early career efforts in the field of ferroelectric liquid crystals and photo alignment. In 2018, he received the Best I-Zone display Prototype of the Year award f rom the SID Display Week for his ferroelectric liquid crystal displays. The same year, he received the LG Bronze award f rom the Korean Information Display Society for the newly developed quantum rod enhancement film. He has published 265 research papers and holds 49 patents/patent applications.
