Muhammed Afzal P teaches courses in Literary and Cultural Studies in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. He completed his Ph.D. in Cultural Studies from the English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, and M.A. in English from the University of Hyderabad. His research has been primarily concerned with the cultural forms and aesthetic practices of the Left that mediated Kerala’s experience of modernity. He is currently researching on “Melodrama, Romance and Utopian Desire in Early Malayalam Cinema”. His areas of research interests include Malayalam Cinema; Intellectual and Cultural History of the Left in India; Contemporary Indian English Fiction; Popular Culture and Popular Politics, Cultural Studies in Asia; and Language Politics.
