NCSSI-12

Solid state ionics (SSI) is a multidisciplinary scientific and industrial field dealing with ionic and electronic transport phenomena in solids and their technological applications. The National Conference on Solid State Ionics (NCSSI) provides a platform for scientists to discuss ideas, fundamentals, innovations and applications in the area of ion conducting materials and promotes collaborations. Researchers can acquaint with new techniques and ideas in the emerging field of solid state ionics. This conference is held every two years under the auspices of Indian Solid State Ionics Society (ISSIS).

The 12th National conference on solid state ionics (NCSSI-12) is scheduled to be held at BITS Pilani, Pilani campus during December 21-23, 2017.

Theme and broad areas

The biennial NCSSI will be organized by our Physics department in association with Indian Solid State Ionics Society (ISSIS) with a theme, "SOLID STATE IONICS: FUNDAMENTALS TO ENERGY STORAGE AND CONVERSION DEVICES". In particular, it will focus on the following broad areas and scopes:

  • Solid state ionic materials: ionic glasses, solid and gel polymer composites, proton conductors, ionogels, ionic liquid based superionic systems
  • Ionic/electronic/mixed conductors: Theory and modeling
  • Characterization techniques in solid state ionics
  • Hybrid electrolyte systems for devices and electric vehicles
  • Solid state Ionic devices: Li+ ion Batteries, fuel cells, supercapacitors,  sensors, electrochromic displays and Electrochemical solar cells. Cathode and anode materials for devices.
  • Low dimensional ionic systems: Micro batteries, nanoionics
  • Bioionics: Ionic transport in biological systems, microbial fuel cells

Indian Solid state ionics society

Indian Solid State Ionics Society formed in 1992 at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi is a registered society which supports the organization of the National Conference on Solid State Ionics every two years in different parts of the country. It has organized conferences previously in BHU, NERIST Itanagar, IIT Bombay, Nagpur University, Jadavpur University, APS University, Rewa, Sagar University, Amity University Noida, IIT Kharagpur and Tezpur University Assam.

BITS Pilani

The Birla Institute of Technology & Science, BITS Pilani is an all India Institute for higher education. Started in early 1900s as a small school, blossomed into a set of colleges for higher education, ranging from the Humanities to Engineering until 1964 when all these colleges amalgamated to culminate into a unique Indian University of International-standard. This university was christened as the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, known to many as BITS, Pilani. Over the years, BITS has provided the highest quality technical education to students from all over India admitted on the basis of merit. BITS is located in the Vidya Vihar campus adjacent to the town of Pilani in Rajasthan. In 2000, BITS open a branch in Dubai making it the first Indian university with an overseas campus. Subsequently, in the year 2004 and 2008 BITS open its campuses in Goa and Hyderabad respectively.
