National Workshop on Improving Synergy between Teaching and Research in Indian Academia (ISTRIA 2018)

Cutting-edge research feeding into course content and pedagogic research leading to the development of teaching practice are two major ways to synergize teaching with research and vice-versa. However, in Indian academia, due to recent emphasis on research, both in terms of projects and publications, it sounds as if teaching and research are divorced from each other. Today there are people who believe that research in colleges and university can flourish independently and same is the case with those who believe that good teaching can happen without engaging in research. Hence there exists a need to link both research and teaching through a strong synergistic dialogue. This 2-day national workshop on Improving Synergy between Teaching and Research in Indian Academia aims to provide a platform where academicians can share their research and experiences on how to synergize teaching and research and also to listen to and interact with leading experts in this area.

Broad Areas

  • Pedagogy and Pedagogical Changes at Higher Education Level
  • Use of Technology in Teaching
  • Teaching oriented to Research and Research oriented to Teaching

Teaching Learning Centre(TLC), Pilani Campus

Teaching Learning Centre (TLC) at BITS Pilani is envisioned merely as an enabling entity in matters related to teaching and learning. It is involved in improving the overall teaching-learning environment by strengthening the teaching-learning experience, enabling the agency of both the learner and the teacher, grounding learner-centered paradigm of education, discussing new pedagogy and evaluation techniques, encouraging innovation in teaching-learning methodologies and promoting use of the latest technologies in the teaching-learning process.
The centre also aims to carry out research on innovative teaching pedagogy, collect good practices of teaching learning from all over the world and disseminate among the faculty, conduct intensive teaching workshops and invite experts from India and abroad to deliver lectures on relevant topics. In  summary TLC provides a continuous forum for resolving challenges in the teaching-learning process through a collegial rather than a prescriptive approach.
