The examination is designed to test  the students knowledge, grasp of fundamentals and his ability to use them in unknown situations. The Ph.D. qualifying examination papers are based on the topics of each course, successfully completed by the individual candidate in his/her higher degree (e.g.;ME/MS/M.Tech/M.Sc. Engg/M.Pharm/M.Phil etc. if the candidate is possessing only first degree (e.g. M.Sc/MA/M.Com/MBA/BE/B.Sc Engg/B.Tech. etc) and has sufficient professional experience then he/she has to identify higher degree of BITS and its prescribed course package in which Ph.D. qualifying examination is to be taken and to which the professional standing can be nationally equated.
