Circulation Service

The BITS Pilani library has implemented KOHA open-source Integrated Library System and is fully automated. The entire collection of the library including Books, Bound Volumes, Theses, Reports and Audio Visual Resources are bar-coded and /or are part of Web OPAC. The members of the library are expected to present their Institute's ID cards to get the books borrowed on their names.

The books are issued for a period of two weeks and the entitlements for members are as follows:

The books can be re-issued for another period of 2 weeks provided they are not reserved by other members.

Members are expected to pay overdue charges if they are returning books late. The reminders for overdue books are automatically generated and sent to members.Members can reserve a book that is out in circulation. When the returned, the member will be informed by e-mail/phone/SMS to collect the reserved book.The Library management system provides issue statistics for any given period, who borrows what, fast moving titles, List of overdue books etc.

Books which are on loan may be renewed for a further period of 15 days or one month as the case may be, provided no other reader has requisitioned the book in the meantime. For renewal, either the book needs to be brought to the library to get the new due date stamped at the issue counter or simply send an e-mail request at helpdesk.library@pilani.bits-pilani.ac.in

If a book is returned after the due date, the Overdue charges will be as follows:
   a) For first two weeks (14 days) - Rs. 1/- per day per book
    b) After 14th day, Rs. 2/- per day per book.
Any conscious attempt to retain the book by paying the late fee is discouraged.

The members will receive a system generated reminders for overdue books. When such reminders are received, the students are expected to return the books immediately or get them re-issued at the issue counter or simply by sending an e-mail at helpdesk.library@pilani.bits-pilani.ac.in

A book can be returned through another member, and the overdue charges, if any, needs to be paid by the member who brings the book.

The Librarian has the right to recall any book at any time.

A book which is on loan can be reserved online using Online Catalogue(KOHA) on the library portal http://library.bits-pilani.ac.in
