About

Dr. Rahul Banerjee, currently on extraordinary leave from the Instituteis a Professor of Computer Science & Information Systems Engineering at BITS Pilani. He holds a PhD in Computer Science & Engineering in the area of Hybrid Intelligent Systems. His research and teaching interests lie in the areas of Computer Networking (Protocol engineering, QoS, Routing, Mobility, Vehicular Networking), Wearable Computing (involving non-invasive sensing, on-body computing, BAN based routing) and Ubiquitous Computing (including Internet of Things / Cyber-Physical Systems and Ambient Intelligence). 

He has led and participated in several funded research projects including those funded by European Commission in the area of Next Generation Networking involving IPv6 (in a five-nation project), Govt. of India (DIT-MCIT) in the area of Technology-enabled Learning, Govt. of France (in a four-nation project) in the area of IPv6-enabled Low-Power Wireless Sensor Networking. In addition, Microsoft Research, IBM, Cisco, DEC and Google have supported his work in a variety of forms and grants. He has had active research collaborations involving Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Oxford, University of Bern, UPM Madrid, Stanford University, Penn State University, University of Bath, University of Haute Alsace and ITM Rennes amongst others. He has been a reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Computers, IEEE Internet Computing, IEEE Communications, IEEE Transactions on ITS, Elsevier's Pattern Recognition Letters, International Journal of Computer Networking & Distributed Systems and IISc Journal apart from numerous refereed international and national conferences and symposia. He has also served on Technical Committees related to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and IEEE apart from playing an active role in select work-groups of the Internet Engineering Task-Force (IETF).

At BITS Pilani, he has been engaged in wide-ranging activities involving research, teaching and administration for nearly two decades. He also played the role of the university-wide Leader for the Multi-campus Immersive Telepresence Project  known as the BITS-Connect 2.0 at BITS Pilani. Most recently, he was the Leader of the university-wide imperative of Technology-Enablement Imperative under the Mission-2015 of the Institute. He has handled multiple administrative and academic positions at BITS Pilani since 1998, including Head of the Department: CS&ISE, University-wide Professor-in-Charge: Teaching-Learning Centre (TLC), Chief: Software Development & Educational Technology Unit (SDET Unit), Assistant Dean (Technology Affairs: WIL) and Co-ordinator: Centre for Software Development (CSD). 

He is a Senior Member of the IEEE, Member of the ACM, Life Member of ISoc, ISTE and ISCA and Associate Member of the IE(I) and CSI. He is also the founder of the Touch-Lives.org (founded in 2010).
