The Pharmacy department of BITS Pilani is one of the few early schools of Pharmacy in India. Established in 1950, under the able leadership of (Late) Prof. M. L. Schroff, Father of Pharmacy Education in India, blossomed into one of the most sought after Schools of Pharmacy in India due to its broad-based education system and university-industry linkages, which is the hallmark of BITS, Pilani. In the year of 2011, the Department of Pharmacy completed 60 years of its existence as a premier institution in the field of Pharmacy Education and Research in India and abroad. The Department is continuously undertaking research projects funded by industries and governmental funding agencies like CSIR, UGC, AICTE, DST and MHRD. Ph.D. degrees have been awarded to about 60 candidates till now. Alumni are well placed in India as well as abroad in various pharmaceutical companies, government organisations like drug control, research laboratories, etc., and in several well-known academic institutions.

Research

The Department is continuously undertaking research projects funded by industries (Incisive Element LLC. USA, Slayback Pharma, Morning side, Colorcon, Etica ClinPharma, Zeon Ltd. etc) and governmental funding agencies like DST-SERB, DST-Nanomission, DBT, ICMR and CSIR. The department of Pharmacy currently has 15 faculty members and 51 full time, 06 part-time and 02 aspirant fellows registered as Ph.D. students. The faculty and the students of the department are being recognized on both International and National platforms. The department also boasts of having 2 faculty start-up ventures- Nanobrid Innovations Pvt. Ltd. and Vnnovate Healthcare Pvt. Ltd.

Faculty Recognition

Dr. Anil Jindal and Dr. Gautam Singhvi, faculty members of the Department of Pharmacy have been psted in the “World Top 2% Scientists” in 2021 database created by experts at Stanford University, USA(Data Pubpshed in the journal of PLOS Biology: 19 October 2021).

Gaikwad Anil Bhanudas was invited by Director, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research [NIPER], Ahmedabad as an expert for the revision of the Pharmacology Curriculum in the month of May 2020

S. Murugesan was appointed as an external expert for Doctoral Advisory Committee by JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysuru.

Dr. Gautam Singhvi was co-chair at the Disso Research Presentations India 2020 (DRPI 2020) Onpne event, organized jointly by the Society for Pharmaceutical Dissolution Science (SPDS) and Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI) conducted from 4-7th June 2020.

Prof. Rajeev Tapyan was appointed as Technical editor of Current Research in Cardiovascular Pharmacology in November 2019.

Dr. Deepak Chitkara invited as a delegate in an invitation program carried out under the framework of Sakura Science Exchange program (Sakura science plan) administered by Japan Science and Technology Agency, University of Miyazaki, Japan on December 16 – 22, 2019.

Dr. Gautam Singhvi has been selected as Guest editor for thematic issue, "Development of nanoformulations using Quapty by Design (QbD) approach" Nanoscience & Nanotechnology – ASIA, Bentham Science USA (2018) and also has been selected as ‘Bentham Ambassador’ for year 2018-2019 by Bentham Science Pubpsher, USA.
