Computer Science and Information Systems

Overview

The Department was established in 1971 and is one of the oldest Computer Science Departments in the country. It currently has 30 faculty members and it offers 2 undergraduate and 2 graduate programmes. The department attracts the best students from all over India and has 100% placement record. Many of our students join the top US universities for doing Masters/Ph.D. We admit around 200+ students every year in different programmes. In addition to this, we admit 4-5 full-time Ph.D. scholars every year. We have recently benchmarked our curriculum with the top 5 universities in the world and we are now in the process of equipping our teaching labs with state-of-the-art equipments. The department’s faculty and Ph.D. students are engaged in research in the frontier areas of computing. The department attracts research funding from various govt. agencies like UGC, DIT, DST etc, Indian Army, and IT industry.

The department has 1 senior professor, 4 professors, 1 associate professor, 5 assistant professors, & 18 lecturers. Our faculty are working on many industry & government sponsored R &D projects. Research Awards

Prof. Navneet Goyal and Dr Poonam Goyal of Computer Science Department of BITS Pilani have won the IBM Scalable Data Analytics Innovation Award 2010 under their Smarter Planet Initiative. The award is for the concept titled "Developing a Smart Crop Management System using Data Analytics" and carries a cash prize of $ 15,000 USD.
