Overview

Centre for Women Studies works towards sustainable societal development. The Centre undertakes various activities for upliftment of women and their families in social, economic and health sectors.

CWS helps in consolidating activities of My India Group (Nirmaan Organization). “My INDIA” is an initiative started by dedicated students at BITS-Pilani. These students have undertaken various initiatives to address issues of illiteracy, health concerns and socio-economic deprivation.

CWS undertakes interdisciplinary research studies with the objective of enhancing socio-economic development of communities in and around Pilani. The Centre organizes national and international Conferences, Workshops and Training programs on issues of societal relevance. CWS also collaborates with Institutions at international level for exploring and understanding socio-cultural and health issues from a cross-cultural perspective.

Research

The technological inputs from faculty and students of a reputed technological Institute like BITS, Pilani help in development of gender friendly technology – both in theory and practice and in bringing women into the mainstream of development with the help of technology. The aim is to ensure that women not only benefit from technology, but also participate in the process from the design to the application stage. The Centre for Women Studies undertakes diverse range of academic and field activities with the objective of empowering women.
