BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus celebrated Matribhasha Diwas (Mother language Day) on March 3, 2016. Regional associations like Brundaavanam Telugu Samiti, Gitanjali Bengali Association, Maharashtra Mandal, Baithak, Sangam, Gujarati Association and Utkal Samaj - each comprising students from a particular linguistic community, reflected on the glory of their respective languages and cultures. They presented posters and made PPT presentations detailing the origin, evolution and the current state of the language, eminent personalities from different fields who contributed to the growth of the language, famous texts, places of linguistic significance etc.
Professor V. S. Rao, the acting Vice-Chancellor of the Institution and the Director of the Campus, inaugurated the proceedings by lighting a lamp. The posters and presentations were assessed by a group of faculty members from the Campus. While Brundaavanam, the Telugu students’ club, was awarded the first prize for its beautiful and sensible display, Baithak and Sangam, the two clubs representing Punjabi-Urdu-Hindi and Hindi student population respectively, won the second and the third prize. The celebration was a true representation of the linguistic and cultural diversity of India.
