About Us

Welcome to the Department of Biological Sciences Group. Our Department focuses on multidisciplinary bioscience teaching and research. Students in the life sciences will experience rich lecture, laboratory and research opportunities. Courses in Ecology, Biochemistry, Stem cells, Genetic engineering, Immunology and Microbiology, reflect the diversity of our group. Interactive mentoring opportunities, combined with good laboratory facilities, gives students interested in life sciences a wide exposure. Exposure to research is also enhanced by a variety of seminar series and journal clubs.

The Department offers the following programmes :
  • M.Sc. (Hons.) Biological Science.
  • M.E. (Biotechnology).
  • Doctoral Program (Ph.D.).

Research

The Department has a number of research projects sponsored by various funding agencies such as Department of Science and Technology, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Earth Sciences, Dept. of Biotechnology (DBT), and The Indian Council of Agricultural Research. Many international and national conferences, seminars and workshops have been organized by the Department.

Conferences / Workshops organised

  • American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Sponsored International Workshop on Bioremediation (IWB-2010) JANUARY 4 - 16 , 2010.
  • National conference on Anaerobic Digestion and renewable energy through microbes (Jan13th - 15th, 2009) Sponsored by DAAD, DST and UGC. 35 oral presentations and 25 poster presentations. Total participants - 75.
  • Workshop on ‘Executive Development Programme on Public Health and Ethics’ (November 30th to 1st December, 2008).
  • 63rd BRNS - IANCAS National Workshop on ' Radiochemistry and Applications of Radioisotopes in Science - A Hands on Training programme' from January 20 to 28, 2007, organised by BRNS and BARC, Mumbai in collaboration with BITS Pilani, Goa Campus.

3. Area: Environment-Cell Biology

Role of environmental toxins in kidney related diseases of canacona taluka, Goa, (CSIR)
