Chemical engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with the chemical and physical processes used to develop and make many products. Chemical engineering applies fundamental principles in physics, math, chemistry, and biology to chemical and biochemical processes. While a new compound is discovered in the lab, this compound would be nothing more than a laboratory curiosity unless a chemical engineer used his or her knowledge to quantify, scale up, test and produce the compound as a final product.
The curriculum is designed to equip the students with essential knowledge and necessary skills to enable him to undertake above tasks. In the first year, foundation is laid with courses on sciences, humanities, math and statistics, and professional communication. In subsequent years, the student is taught a wide spectrum of core as well as allied courses; such as fluid, heat and mass transfer, reactor design, process control, process design, material science, etc. there is a wide pool of electives available to students, containing courses such as process plant safety, environmental pollution control, polymer technology, refrigeration and air-conditioning, biochemical engineering, combustion engineering, and petroleum refining, etc.
