Pearl 2012

Pearl '12 has been launched on 1th Feb, 2012! The Chief Guest for the event was Padma Shri Dr. Ananda Shankar Jayant, a dancer by profession. Being a cancer survivor, she inspired the audience with her simple yet powerful words of wisdom.

The ceremony was then followed by the Classical Music Night, which saw a wonderful performance by Ghatam Karthik and his 'Heartbeat Ensemble'. Ensemble consisted of violin, table, mandolin, morsing and kanjira, and Karthik on the ghatam.  He mesmerised the audience with their varied and wide range of renditions of songs, bhajans and keerthanams. The performance included versions of popular film songs as well, such 'Kaadhal Rojave' from the movie Roja, with different lyrics as a dedication to Goddess Saraswati as well as Beethoven's Fur Elise and other popular classical compositions. The concert was also interactive and the audience was left enchanted by spectrum of sounds that were produced.

The performance was followed by members of Shades, the arts club of our campus, creating a pixelated version of Mario on stage in ten minutes.  Both the idea and execution were wonderful. The performances by the regional associations were next in line.

The solo dance performances, of Kathak and Bharatnatyam were graceful and the bhangra performance added a new flavour to the evening with its energy and charm. The dance club's theme based performance was what followed, which showcased not only their skills at dancing and choreography, but also creativity and imagination, as they showcased a story with Mario as the protagonist.

The drama club's performance was truly wonderful, and had the right amount of every expression and emotion, while keeping in mind the main theme of the play, as well as the festival.

The final dance performance which followed proved to be a fitting finale to the evening. The dance was graceful and portrayed various emotions.
