Babasaheb Neelkanth Kalyani (66, Mechanical)
Mr. Kalyani is the Chairman, Kalyani Group and CMD, Bharath Forge, the world's second largest forgings manufacturer. Ranked by Forbes as one of the 50 richest Indians as well as 500 richest people all over the world, he was awarded "CEO of the Year" by Business Standard in 2004 and "Entrepreneur of the Year" by Ernst & Young the following year. Mr. Kalyani also received the Indian government "Padma Bhushan" award for contributions to Trade and Industry, and was made Commander First Class of the Royal Order of the Polar Star by the Swedish government in recognition of his contribution in furthering trade and business cooperation between Sweden and India. Other awards include “Global Economy Prize” in 2009 for Business by Kiel Institute and “German Businessman of the Year-2006” by Business India Magazine.
Prithviraj Chavan (63, Mechanical)
Mr. Chavan is the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and a former Minister of State for the Prime Minister’s Office administering various ministries. He is a technocrat who worked in the fields of aircraft instrumentation and designing of audio recorders for anti-submarine warfare in the US before returning to India and becoming an entrepreneur in 1974. During his long innings in the government, Mr.Chavan served as a member of the council of Ministers on the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs as well as the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs. He was also a Member of the Atomic Energy Commission and the Space Commission, the highest policy making bodies in the respective fields. Mr.Chavan was a member of the Prime Minister’s Committee on Infrastructure, Energy Co-ordination Committee, Trade and Economic Relations Committee and the Committee on Trade and Industry. He also served on the Prime Ministerial delegation to the United States in July 2005, when the nuclear deal was signed. He was a founding member of the Indo – US Parliamentary forum.
Prof. Dorairajan Balasubramanian ('55, Chemistry)
Prof. Balasubramanian is theDirector of LV Prasad Eye Hospital and a former director of CCMB, Hyderbad. He has taught in a number of universities around the world and has been honored with a "Padma Shri” by the government of India in 2002. He has also won numerous awards and honors including the Indian National Science Academy's “Indira Gandhi Prize” for Science Popularization and the “DST/NCSTC National Prize” for Science Popularization 2002. He is a fellow of the “American Association of the Advancement of Science”, the “Third World Academy of Sciences”, “The International Molecular Biology Network”, “the Indian National Science Academy”, and the “Indian Academy of Sciences”. He has received the “UNESCO Award for Science Popularization” (1997), the “Third World Academy of Sciences Award” for Basic Medical Sciences (1995), the “Khwarizmi Award” of Iran in Medicine (1996) and the “Bhatnagar Prize” in Chemical Science (1981.
Prof. Goverdhan Mehta (’58, Chemistry)
Prof. Mehta is a National Research Professor in Hyderabad and Former Director of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He has made notable contributions in chemical sciences and specializes in the area of organic chemistry. He was awarded the “CSIR Bhatnagar Fellowship” in 1978, was honored with “Padma Shri” in 2001 by the Government of India. The “Officier dansI' ordre Palmes Academiques” in 1999 by President of France. He also has the “Humboldt Research Prize” of Germany (being the first Indian to receive the award), “Mercator Professor”, (DFG) Germany, and “Medal from the Third World Academy of Sciences” and has many more to his credit. Prof. Mehta serves as Independent Director on the Board of Directors and Member, Research Advisory Boards of several leading Pharmaceutical, Biotech and other companies. He is also a consultant/ senior advisor on R & D to several national and transnational companies.
