Programmes Offered

The BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus offers a number of Masters Programmes. As most of the students wishing to pursue their Master's Degrees are working professionals, these classes are held in the evenings.

  • M.E. Design Engineering

Design Engineering is a generic term that covers multiple engineering disciplines including but not limited to  mechanical engineering. It deals with a branch of study that sets a direction to the design effort needed for most complex parts of design. A design engineer usually leads the project, designing the overall framework and the most far reaching parts. He/She also directs the designers/drafters on sub-system designs of a project's more routine parts as necessary through prototyping, engineering drawings, production, CAD, etc. In collaboration with industrial designers and marketing professionals, he/she develops the product concept and specifications and directs the design effort from that point. Products are generally  designed with input from a number of sources such as manufacturing, purchasing, tool making and package engineering.

The M.E. Design Engineering programme aims at equipping a Mechanical Engineer with the core competency skills required to be a Design Engineer. The programme primarily covers the broad areas namely: Materials Technology, Product Design, Mechanisms and Robotics, Computer Aided tools for a Mechanical Engineering Analysis and Design in addition to discipline based elective courses in emerging & advanced areas.

  • M.E. Microelectronics

Microelectronics is a field related to  study and micro fabrication of electronic components which help miniaturizing the size of electronic circuits and systems made from semiconductors. Many components of normal electronic design such as transistors, capacitors etc., have their microelectronic equivalent. They are employed in today's chip technologies  that accommodate analog, digital and mixed signal circuits on micro-dimensional semiconductor wafers. As techniques improve, the scale of microelectronic  components continue to decrease. At smaller scales, the relative impact of  intrinsic circuit properties such as interconnections (called the parasitic effects) may become more significant. The M.E. Microelectronics programme aims at offering courses that provide necessary skill set required by microelectronics design engineer to find ways to compensate for or to minimize these effects, while always delivering smaller, faster, and cheaper devices in line with the current technological developments.

The M.E. Microelectronics programme primarily covers the broad areas namely Modeling of Microelectronic Devices, IC Fabrication Technology, VLSI Architecture and Design, CAD tools for Analog and Digital IC Design in addition to discipline based elective courses in emerging & advanced areas.

    See the Semester-wise programme structure.

  • M.E. Software Systems

M.E. Software Systems programme has  been specially designed to ensure development of systems theory approaches in software engineering context. It involves a focused study of major components of software and their architecture & interactions in a variety of categories of software systems namely: application software, programming software, system  software. These software categories find applications in computer reservation systems, air traffic control, military command and control systems, telecommunication networks, web browsers, content management systems, database management systems, expert systems, word processors, and so on.

The M.E. Software Systems programme aims at offering courses that provide necessary skill sets required by software systems engineers. The programme primarily covers the broad areas namely: Computer Organization and Software Systems, Software Engineering & Management, Software Architecture, Data Wear-housing and so on in addition to discipline based elective courses in emerging and advanced areas.

  • M.E. Biotechnology

Biotechnology deals mainly with technological applications utilizing biological systems, dead organisms, or derivatives thereof, to make or modify products or processes for specific use. It is a technology based on biology, especially used in
agriculture, food science and medicine. M.E. programme in Biotechnology, offers courses with a proper blend of disciplines like genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, and embryology and cell biology to enable the student to hone the required skill set to handle the current and forth-coming challenges in this technological area.

The curriculum for the M.E. Biotechnology programme has been specially designed to ensure that the student acquires a well-rounded academic qualification having core competency skills in Biotechnology and an understanding of generic courses. It primarily covers the broad areas namely Environmental Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology, Experimental Techniques in the area of biotechnology, Advanced Cell and Molecular Biology and so on in addition to discipline based elective courses in emerging & advanced areas.
